The math to figure out my own would probably give me a headache. Our "other heat" is natural gas, via a Munchkin boiler (I looked it up, 95.1% efficient) and radiators. My payback point might be different.

But you have to remember that the oil or propane furnace typically has multiple vents in rooms throughout the house. So the heat is spread via hot air to a much larger portion of the house. The only way you can realistically make a comparison here is to set a test facility that monitors usage and equal cfpm airflow.

Radiant floor is awesome Once the smoke clears here a bit I do want to hear more about that heatlink. I haven't really even researched it hardly yet. I'll do that first so I can make more sense of it. Options and possibilities....... options and possibilities.

Possibly, but a "central" furnace could be jammed into a closet with a supply out one side and return air on the other. Problem solved with short cash. Banks will lend on a pile of dung if they know they will be paid back so it doesn't really matter.

Fully aware and have a new high end Amana furnace in the shed. All thats needed is the ducting and ac coil. Have a good friend that is probably one of the most qualified in the state to help.

I have had insurance companies turn me down because I didn't have a central system. I had monitors at the time. Also was turned down because my driveway wasn't paved and because a fire hydrant wasn't close enough. But a bank financed the home.

Your set up is considered central heating because there is a heating source in each room from a central source; the main electrical panel. As far as the monitors and other space type heaters go, a bank might issue a non guarantied loan ( just the mortgaged property as collateral) but the FHA , HUD, or GI loan programs will not. I had this happen to me in a house that only had multiple wood stoves.

That's a stretch for sure. Central heat does not mean wall heaters from a single main panel. You're using the word "central" wrong but no worries....

What you encountered was that a bank won't lend, and insurance won't insure, a home without a thermostatic/automatic heat source. Woodstoves and pellet stoves are not automatic enough to prevent the pipes from freezing. Not even sure if modern building codes will allow you to build a home with only wood heat.

Now, now, now, people! This debate on "central" heat holds almost zero weight and here's why.

1.) Bioburner is a wise man and I am sure he has his bases covered.

2.) More importantly all of us pellet and wood burns can pay cash and really don't need any financing. Right? LOL! Seriously look at ALL of that money we have laying around because we save sooooo much on our heating costs. And we are so green money trees sprout up and thrive on our plots of land too, Ya know!

Thast not totally true. My house bought in the last 6 years did not have a central heating system. The base board electric is considered space heaters.

Electric base are not a "central" system and they comprise of a bunch of individual room heaters. I know why you burn pellets. How 'bout those friendly electric bills?

My worst bill was $887 (1 month)and that was only heating the main rooms to 61°f (couldn't get it any warmer). About a month after that is when we got the pellet stove.

Central or not central, bank will or will not etc. Will insure or not. Banks do as they please in different areas. Lets keep on what is trying to keep our butts warm Pellet or biofuel stoves.
