I heard that the way to keep from becoming an old dog is to keep learning new tricks.
My newest trick is one of these fancy stoves. I was pretty disappointed when I fired her up. I was getting the classic run away burn. (After break in burns)
The first mod was a flue damper, and that helped. It was no where near a solution.
I was mulling over the air supply issue, and cutting off the main air intake had me curious. Taking simple card stock, I placed it under the intake. The fire dies almost instantly. Before I got to far down that rabbit hole, I found this site.
The folks on this site had the solution. Magnets on the ash chamber walls did the trick.
So now I can sleep in as long as my dogs and bladder will let me, unless it gets into the teens, then a 3 o'clock stoking and a blazing fire to wake up to is in order.
I'm looking forward to getting to know others who enjoy splinters in thier fingers.
