Offical Pennington Pellets 2008

I have Pennington pellet fuel oak (Yellow and white bags) Bought 2 ton in August.
First year burning so no other experience to compare to
I find a lot of broken and a fair amount of dust in the bottom of the bag
It also seems that most pellets are small, but shiny
Burn good, put out good heat, big flame, don't really know about ash(there is some)
I throw out some of the bag just to keep it out of the stove, but so far so good.

I bought 55 bags of Penningtons from a local hardware and a ton of Future Fuel pellets from Home Depot. The Penningtons cost me about 15% moe but I marked that up to the local guy not being able to offer the same prices as the big box store.

The Pennington pellets are much lighter in color (I have no idea if that is relevant) have more fines in the bottom of the bag, and have huge pellets in them. I bet some of the pellets are over two inches. The do burn just as hot as the Future Fuel, but are much dirtier. I have clinkers with the Penningtons, they dirty the glass in a fraction of time as the others, and a lot of ash in comparison.

My bags are white with red and yellow markings, they say they are made in Virginia and have no date so I don't know if they are new or not. They do have a paper sticker that is placed on each bag with a lot number and each individual bag has a number on them, you can tell that they were sequentially numbered on the pallet.....I wonder if I burn them in number order will I win a prize?

A wal mart near me in Biddeford Maine has a good supply right now of Penningtons. While I was browsing I was reading the bar coded shipping tag on the white outer wrapping of the Pallets of Pellets. A shiiping address from where they came from said.... Pennington/Energex. Is energex now part of the pennington clan?

Pennington, $5.75 a bag $287 a ton. Forest Blaze $6 a bag $300 a ton. All under cover, they are every where in the garden center, don't know how they jammed them all in there.

Ridiculous, but obviously the shortage is over now that the price is up. It'll come back down

Just cleaned the stove from last nights Sept Pennington burn observations as follows,
Sept Pennington's burned dirtier.
Ash was clumpy with Some type of soft mushy clinker.
They even smelled different burning and out of the bag.
June dark Pennington's are shiny as were this Sept batch.

I bought a ton of penningtons from my stove dealer that say premium hardwood. Dealer told my they were from
down south. these seem (to me anyways) to burn better and cleaner than the penningtons bought at wall mart.
The wall mart ones say premium wood pellets and also say made in Canada. These bags seem to contain a bit more sawdust than the other, possibly from wally's handling. All the same to me....you pour them in the top of the stove, and heat comes out the front of it.

I agree, pour them in the top and the heat comes out the front. A little saw dust does not appear to bother and they put out plenty of heat. I also have Athens wood pellets they have a little more ash but they put out a lot of heat too. I have burned 5 different brands including softwood pellets and they all seam to put out heat and that’s the most important thing.

I think a lot of people are getting fussy about pellets when it really does not matter. I mean we're just burning them. Unless they break you stove I wouldn't worry about it.

I bought 5 tons of Pennington Pellets over the summer with my new Quadrafire stove, just burned about 4 bags over the last week. I have no opinion of any other brands of pellets and/or stove as this is my first season burning pellets and using the stove.

The stove burns evenly with these pellets, they seem to burn evenly and when the stove is turned on high the amount of heat is huge.

I have a 3300 sq home and it heats the whole house....

I to bought 5 tons of the Pennington Pellets from Sams Club in June of 08. I am burning them in my new Quadrafire Mt. Vernon and they are great. Very little fines. No problems what so ever.

I havent noticed any difference in the penningtons and the spruce pointe pellets i have except when i turn my feed down to 2 wit hthe pennigntons it almsot goes out, where on 2 with my spruce pointe pellets it keeps a little fire going

There doesnt seem to be too many negatives on those forest pride pellets, Ill be curious to see if Wally World in Seabrook gets some in

I was iffy about using these pellets after reading some posts but in a panic last month I bought 2 tons from WM for 250/ton. I could not find any others and wanted to have something. I have burned around 12-15 bags and have had no problems at all. The dust is very low and I cant imagine the heat being any better. I keep it on the 2nd lowest setting(of 6) and the downstairs stays warm. The ash is very low and I have yet to see a clinker.
I traded a couple of bags with 2 neighbors so we could compare. One was a solid black bag and it seemed comparable. The other was a white bag with green writing - made in MA. Those were clearly different from looking at the pellets. Lots of smaller peices and lots of dust. This neighbor has had problems with clinkers - I only burned one bag of them but did not find any.
Just giving an update since the Penningtons have had some bad reviews. They have been great thus far and I will buy another ton when I can find them - I see that they are higher now - maybe they will come down during the season as manufacturers catch up?
We have not had any prolonged periods of cold yet here in NH but I a loving the stove so far!

I bought 2 tons of Pennington pellets and 2 tons of tidy timbers. I began burning the Pennington's first because of my concern with them since soo many people have had problems. Since burning the pellets there have been a lot of fines and longs. Some pellets are as long as 4". So if you have a picky stove that needs smaller pellets I would advise against getting Pennington. Also just recently when I poured a bag of PENNINGTON's into the hopper I noticed that there was a piece of wood inside that bag. It was not a long pellet but a 5" piece of wood. I feel that I cannot trust Pennington anymore. Their pellets are so inconsistant. I then called peggy at customer service who did nothing about the problem but advise me to call home depot where I purchased them and have them exchange them out. First thats not home depots problem its Pennington's. I can see doing that if the bags were ripped but this is a 5" piece of WOOD inside of the bag. Secondly, home depot towmotor does not fit inside of my garage so I have to take out the ton of pellets by hand and load the exchanged pellets back into the garage by hand. Lastly I am not ven sure that they would exchange them or have any pellets left. Thats some good advice PENNINGTON Dish your responsibility to someone else to deal with including your customers. It is not worth the hassel with this company. I will NEVER buy PENNINGTON PELLETS AGAIN
