Hi guys,
I bought a ton of these from The Stove Depot in Bennington last Monday for $279.00, and they came highly recommended.
Mine are bagged in a different bag that uses just the company name, Queston. They are a good looking softwood,
have a mix of typically smaller pieces with some longer stuff mixed in.
I have burned alot of high end pellets over the years which I prefer. Turmans, Barefoot, LaCrete, the original Okies.
I paid close to $300.00 for LaCrete this year which are great pellets with very good heat, and the 802's for the price blow them out of the water.
The heat is as good or better than the aforementioned pellets and the ash is very low. I run a Breckwell Big E that has the removable flu plates which allows me to fine tune the airflow. I normally have to remove one plate to run on the high settings, which unfortunately allows more heat out the exhaust of the stove. I am currently running with both plates in which creates more heat in the stove to be convected out and these pellets just cook along on less air.
I will definitely be burning these next year for the entire season, as I've found a new favorite. The only negative is that there is a bit more dust in the bag than I like, but being these have just started to be produced I'll give them a pass until they perfect their process.

Anymore feedback on these pellets? My daughter got some for her P61 and said they are a bit short. The seem to fly around her burn pot (or that's what she tells me).

After a full month on this ton with perhaps enough left with the warmer temps to get me thru April...I am still very happy with these.
I just received a pre-buy flyer from Stove Depot and I am definitely buying ahead. I paid $279.00 on the early batch and pre-buy is $259.00 !
As I stated earlier...with Turman and LaCretes at or over $300 this season I am totally satisfied and impressed with the quality and heat output on these, which IMO
are on par with any of the high end pellets. Not sure what the pricing is on LaCretes or Turman as they're listed as "Call for Price" but to be honest,
I'd prefer to buy local like many do with Vermont's, and for the price this brand will be my favorite for some time to come.
As stated earlier in the thread, my only criticism is the fact this early production batch is dusty with more fines than I like, but I gave them a pass this year because they are perfecting the process.
As always, all stoves are not created equal in what they like to burn, so my observations were made on my trusty Breckwell Big E which has the handy capability of adjusting the air in manually, as well as the air going out via addition or removal of 2 flu plates.

I picked up 1/2 ton from Stove Depot last week. My only complaint with these pellets is that they leave hard clinkers in the firepot. I run a Harman Accentra and a Mt Vernon for the past 7-8 years and have never had clinkers- no matter what pellets I use. Clinkers are no problem in the Harman, but after burning the first bag in my Mt Vernon, the self-cleaning firepot jammed from a hard glass-like clinker. Not sure I will buy these next year. I think I will stick with Vermont Wood Pellets. Love that we have 2 excellent local choices now.
Stove Depot gave me a couple of bags of 802s to try in my Englander 25-EP and I liked them enough to buy 2 tons for next season, along with 2 tons of Northerns. I am wrapping up my first pellet stove season and have 1/2 ton left of Currans to finish burning. I will be glad to be done with them! The Currans make my auger squeal - no other pellets I have tried do that. Compared to the Currans, the 802s produce significantly less ash and less build-up on the glass. The 802s are hotter so I had to lower my burn settings significantly in order to get a reasonable burn. I always had brownies in my burn pot with the Currans, but very little build up with the 802s. I am looking forward to my second season with better pellets and better knowledge of the stove.
Thanks for the input. My daughter and her P61 had the clinkers issue but other than that they were good. Cleaner than ANYTHING I can buy from TSC but not as clean as VWP. Wil have to see if VWP does another pre-buy like last year.
What did they do last year for a pre buy and how do I get on their mailing list? I love 20 min from the plant but hear next to nothing from them.
Last week when I stopped in asking about the pre-buy I was told that do to the extended heating season this year, the high demand for pellets, the pre-buy won't happen until sometime in May, maybe.

Looks like an interesting pellet. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled when I'm up in VT. Maybe they'll start creeping east from Bennington to some of the stores closer to where we are.

Just got a letter from VWP and their pre-buy runs from May 1 to the end of the month.
Randy and All : I've just got my hands on some of the 802 from Stove Depot. Are you guys still burning these? I understand the Queston name is done with the mill changing ownership. Also found out that they kept 802 and added "Green Mountain Wood Pellets" to the brands they are producing.
My experience with the 802 pellets has been excellent. Anyone else have the Green Mountain Pellets out there?

Hi my friend,
I picked up my 3rd ton last Saturday 1/30/16($265.00 right now BTW) from Stove Depot and will be picking up a 4th ton this afternoon which will be all I need this season based on the temps this year. I still stand behind my previous posts that these are my hands down favorites. I understand the new owners shut down production for a few months to adjust the process. My current ton is mid 2015 production and they are burning hot ! Even at lower settings which was my previous experience. Little dust in the bag too.
Changes to my Big E this year(installed an OAK) had me readjusting my air settings(less air) at the same feed settings as last year and removing the flu plates in the stove. The Big E now is running like a heating beast with the 802's. I'm sorry to go on and on, and am not a paid spokesman..LOL
The reason for the OAK over past years was our old house has ancient windows, and the air being pulled from every window leak was atrocious. It felt like the wind blowing through every nook and cranny. That is no more which also makes the house warmer on lower heat settings = less pellet usage.
I will say I ran into some bags from the early production that did end up with clinkers, but so far not on the later production.
Again I'd like to thank the Stove Depot in Bennington VT for not only talking me into trying these(through top notch feedback) but for carrying these at such a great price compared to the big name high end pellets....hats off !!
