Neutralizing water system for well water

I have water neutralizer with backwash in my vacation house where I stay on weekends only. My questions:
- Will it hurt the system if I cut the water (turn off the well pump) when I leave the house? I guess, the motor still be running and can turn the backwash cycle on. Shall I unplayable the controller at the same time when I turn off the well pump?
- what shall I do with neutralizer if I want winterize the house?

Those would be great questions for the manufacturer of your neutralizer equipment. Some can run dry or be "hibernated" for future use.

I turn off my well pump if I'm away for extended periods. I used to unplug my old timer, but my new system has a battery backup, I don't want to run the battery down, so I won't unplug it. If there is no water pressure, the backwash would cycle through, but nothing should happen. When I get back I immediately initiate a backwash.

Winterizing would be much more complicated, you're on your own on that one.
