Measuring hours per bag of pellets.

On my Maxx-M a little fiddling got me more-or-less 2 bags a day - heat range 3, feed rate -2. This works for me as I can fill in the morning, I'm not predictable enough about when I get home at night. It gets a little funky if I need to bump it up to heat range 4.

I think the pellets themselves just aren't completely consistent. I think the usage is really +/- 1/8 bag in that 24 hours. And the really odd thing is last year's Okie Plats could fit 3 bags in an empty hopper, but not this years'.

At 2lbs per hour it heated 1200 or so SF of showroom with a 10' ceiling and a front door that opened and shut quite often. About the same result as any of my others stoves at 3-3.5 lbs per hour or so.

But that's a whole other conversation.

I used 11 1/2 bags over the past 7 days between the 2 stoves. My bogie is 2 bags per day, which gets me to April 15 based on what I have left in the garage, but it could be a little longer or shorter depending on the weather.

If I am going to do a deep clean I'll load the stove up full (3 bags) ahead of time so that it will run out sometime during a day or two I have off, and I will run it dry and measure the time.

Otherwise the few times I've measured I simply fill the hopper, then however many hours later like 24hrs to make it easy I refill the hopper. Lets say I dump 1 bag in, then a partial bag. Just throw the partial bag on the scale and weigh whats left to know what you dumped in, like 10 lbs left means you dumped in 30 lbs, plus the whole bag. Then simply divide that total by however many hours since the fill and you get lbs/hr.

Normally I don't measure, I just top it off every day or two.

i estimate i get about 14-16 hours on a bag of lacrete's, feed rate 3.5-4, stove is on pretty much all day 7a-10p or so.

I wouldn't necessarily call that a certified scale but I feel confident that they are pretty darn close to 40#.

I'm sure the automated bag lines at the extruder have a weight allowance built it and if it was my line, the tolerance would always be on the negative side......

Nope stove goes off at night. I have been burning oil at night just because it heats more evenly upstairs.

I did that all last year.. shut off at night..ran upstairs thermostat only..trying to save pellets was my motive..
problem for us was the downstairs took long time and lot's pellets to warm up everything in the morning...
meaning Saturate the curtains, furniture etc not to mention send heat back upstairs
not a well insullated house.
Our upstairs stays in mid-60's burning 24/7 this year which is good sleeping temps for us.. 3 beds/bath
stairs is direct across from the stove/... could be warmer but would have to crank the heat more Downstairs and maybe melt our walls....
Ceiling fan at top of steps helps circulate pellet heat for 2nd floor.
running a Harman P61A.. it's a Heat beast.'...use more pellets this year But Oil is only for Hot water now.only bought 100 gallons in October...
