Lots of wood to cut for Jotul F600 Firelight - Should I cut it to 24" long

I have a Jotul F600. 24" is a bit to long. The log barely fits. As someone also pointed out, the firebox tapers in the back, and a 24" log will not fit in the back. I cut my logs at 23" and that works perfectly.
