That's what I figured since most old houses have many rooms. I'm thinking a convection type stove with a blower will work better than a radiant stove for your layout. Obviously you'll have some natural convection even with the radiant stove, I have a feeling the Lopi will move the heat around better in your install.
I think your right!

I don't think .2 is worth arguing about. They are very comparable in size, we know that. The Cape Cod holds a 24" log, that's a plus, although its not very deep. So unless you cut your wood long you aren't utilizing the entire firebox.

No argument here, just discussion.;)
I haven't seen either stove in person, and my comment about usable space isn't directed specifically toward either of these stoves, more toward mfr specs in general. Basically, one mfr's "3.0" is another mfr's "2.5," so you can't compare very well just by looking at the specs.

Agreed!

Still have my Fireview but need a bigger stove as my 1900 sq ft farm house could use a little more heat.. Fireview could work , but I don't feel like running it at 650 all the time, I'll be eating through some wood.. 550 STT has been the hottest it's seen... Just would like to get some feed back for a direction to go... I like both stoves... Will I miss the stone heat getting the Lopi? I wonder ;hm

At 550 you certainly were not pushing the stove. When we need heat that thing goes to 650 pretty easy and holds a decent amount of time.

I don't recall any reports of longer burn times with the Lopi. All I remember was easy 12 hours which is similiar to the PH.

I don't know if you would, but I know I would! Some people that have had steel, cast, and stone stoves don't notice much difference. I've had all three, and greatly prefer the stone.

If they both work equally well on your hearth, I don't think you can go wrong with either. If you want to cook on your stove, the PH is great. I don't think you could cook on the Lopi since it has a convection deck on top. I don't know if you'd need to run the blower with the Lopi or not, but that's another consideration. I personally hate blowers, but that's just me.

Good luck!

Waulie, I've had all three and definitely prefer the rock. Next would be cast and steel would be last.

Well after talking with Woodstock for what seemed to be one fun hour, and I thanked them for their time,, I'm staying with the Progress... LOL for what I was going to sell my Fireview for out right , it would have cost me another $2499 on top of my money from the Fireview, to buy a Cape Cod in black with a blower.. Wow can't do that.. Under a 1000 dollars I'm getting a full refund and stepping up to Progress.. I'm confident it will meet my heating needs..Woodstock is treating me very well in my eyes.. Here's a good example of Woodstocks buy back program saving the day..

This is pretty much how the last thread ended. I'm glad you are still going with Progress Hybrid! ;)

Yes Webby, it was like you said , a no brainer after looking at my options and the financial invest needed. The Cape Cod is definitely up there as a nice stove in my eyes!

Too bad the money doesn't work out, I really think the Lopi will move the air around your closed up floor plan better. I'm sure the PH will get it done though. :)

I think it would too. It seems like the fireview would have done the job. Maybe its just to mild of a heat. The iron on the Cod will throw tons of heat, but it also run real slow if needed.

For how long can you get that slow burn and at what temperature ?

16 hours is the longest I have been able to get usable heat. With temps as high as 700 and as low as 250.
This is our only heat source. I load it up, once it's up to temp I shut the by-pass and the air control. 8-12 hours later I do it again and it makes plenty of heat for us. And a beautiful fire too!

There is really no such thing as too much heat in a tri-level. Moving the heat is a huge hurdle. Good luck!
I don't really enjoy the low and slow burns, I often run it higher than needed for the ambiance. And I like messing with it.
That was my only issue with the BK, There was no need to mess with it more than once every 24 hrs, I got bored. ;lol

1.8-cu-ft stove + leaky house in upstate NY = running hot with reloads 3x / day to get it done. I don't think Charlie is into that style of burnin'.;)

Bored sounds good to me.......Heh........ I get busy sometimes and have little time to tend fire.

I guess I am just lucky then with my house cause my wood stove heats the main floor and upper floor with 3 bedrooms evenly .... well , about 1 or 2 degrees warmer upstairs . And on the main floor I just hang a small fan from the ceiling at the top of the stairs ( 7 steps) and it warms the bottom level to about 2 or 3 degrees cooler than the main floor.

Temps in my house are pretty uniform on 1st and 2nd floor not because I skillfully located the stove just $hit luck.. That works for me! :)

I have a sprawling ranch, and it heats pretty even. Only because of my strategically placed stove.;)

Well I will find out in the up coming heating season.. Too hot, I can always adjust the wood load a bit.
