Is there any wood that really stinks when burned???

Don't have any black birch in this area. Have you ever tried making syrup from it? Sounds like it would be great. Boil the sap the same as maple.

I fight the deer in the back yard for the tender young twigs on the Black Birch. It is quite nice chewing on them. I never thought of doing the sap thing with them. I could make my own soda then...not that I really drink it...
 
Alianthus ...often called "tree of Heaven"...should be called "Stinky Sock Tree" ... Ironically chinese Chestnuts smell the same when in flower..
