We had a fire going all afternoon and evening today, in the fire pit, with cocktails and neighbors. It has been a pretty awesome Christmas Eve. Tomorrow I told my parents we should all open presents outside around the fire pit and just throw the wrapping paper in the fire. That would be a first.

No fires here.
It was 68 degrees out at 4PM and there were 35 relatives over for Christmas eve. Every window and door open.
Any warmer and I'd have to turn on the A/C.

No compliants here in Pittsburgh, have only burnt about 12 splits this year, Three nights just to get the chill off. Gas is cheep so used the furnace a few nights, Will make the wood stack last longer

It looks like oldman winter (not to be confused with oldman47) will be showing up a few days before the new year in the Northeast / Middle Atlantic, I am a little bit of a weather buff / stalker and this pair of storms have ice storm written all over it for my area NW Jersey, northern third of PA, Southern New York. Snows for everyone else more north except for the immediate coast.
I will be taking all my outdoor x-mas lights down tomorrow, dig out the snow plow, and a few other odds and ends. The nice thing is that its been warm enough that I don't have to top off the garage wood stack.

Go to my neighbors house, by the looks of the smoke he's got a rip rour going in his fireplace, 58deg here

Greetings from wet and mild Ireland - East coast, happy Christmas to all. Same problem here, very mild here as well, house is now too warm 27C to 29C or close to 80 to 85F inside with the log burner going and 5 to 8 C / 41 to 46 F outside.
Strange how the cost of heating (oil or gas) is always highest when its coldest and lowest when not! World oil prices at at 11 year lows here.
2009 and 2010 we had temps here of 3 to 5 F!

Our christmas(eve) was saved by the woodstove. Low 30s, 30-40mph sustained winds, 60+ gusts and a third of the county without power. Woodstove for heat, water from the spring, and candles for light. Was great.

Exchanged gifts, and got power back after 15 hours. 15 hours was long enough to make us appreciate how good we have it.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

It is so warm and wet here that the wood I cut three weeks ago for two years from now already has a thick coat of green mold. I've heard it adds to the BTU value :)

Went to visit my son 75 miles away today and did not bother with a jacket. By the time I got home it was dark and the dash temperature was still showing 43ºF. He smoked a ham outdoors for our meal and had no trouble holding a nice warm temperature in his smoker.
From now through Tuesday it looks like lots of rain and temperatures in the high 40s to mid 30s. After that, Wednesday looks like a chance of snow for a few hours only and then sub-freezing temperatures well past the new year. I would say that real winter is only a week or so away now.

Yup looking like that here too. Not quite as cold as you but there's forecasts in the upper 30s to low 40's with snow on the fringe.

My daffodils are an 1 1/2" out of the ground. Keeping an eye on the apple trees. Don't want budding.
Had a fire all thru christmas, just had windows and doors open. Was around 70. Lol...the cats couldnt understand. The full moon was cool combined with the mild temps. All the animals are confused.
Its good to get the seasonal break from shoveling and wood loading and doing barn chores in the snow.
Good and bad things.. .just a very different Christmas.

Talk about animals confused....I drove out of my road today and saw more deer in my fields than I have seen all season.

My daughter commented the other day...

"Twas the might before Christmas
And all through the house,
The A/C was running
'cause we live in the South."

Not complaining too much...warmer weather just means less wood I have to buy next year.

Sometimes it has been colder in the house than outside--so small fires to take off the edge. Using lots of supercedars for cold starts!! Happy to be saving my wood for next year since I was a bit short. Last year we had a very cold December despite lack of snow till end of Jan. and I remember lots of people at hearth.com were running low by the end of the winter.

Spent Christmas with the in-laws in Asheville NC. Rhododendrons and dandelions were in bloom, and it hit 78 F on the drive back today. I'm afraid that Mother Nature has a way of making up for fine weather..I predict the snow drifts will be blocking my windows on March 21st! !!!
