I can't figure why prices in the Northeast remain stubbornly high compared to most other areas of the country. Some of the propane prices I see posted elsewhere are insane compared to here.

As with natural gas we are at the end of the pipe. Too small a pipe based on the expanding demand on old infrastructure.
Pretty sure propane only gets here by rail.

Last quotes for oil here near central NH, $2.89/gal. Propane was $3.07..... This was within the last 3 weeks...

Stove Chows at my depot for 269/ton.

...funny thing, Energex told me they had no supply for the '15/'16 season. Guess they've made the choice to deal primarily with the BBS.

I think BBS are using this opportunity to finally make $$ on pellet sales after years of being a lost leader/get people in the door item.

Last time we had Energexes we were getting 255/ton

HD in syracuse selling stove chow for 269 plus tax. I'm getting 4 tons of Barefoots this weekend for 265/ton, no tax

some local jurisdictions in NY collect a sales tax on residential heating fuels
http://www.tax.ny.gov/pdf/publications/sales/pub718r.pdf

other states and local towns/city/parish collect sales taxes on heating fuels

Legislators try to establish a tax here in Ma and Ct often enough to pay for public programs. They fail. So far.

Gonna definitely run the Crown Boiler for awhile. I have almost a full tank that is going on 5yrs old so I have to get rid of it. I put stabilizer in it long ago but who knows how long it lasts. The Crown is over 86% efficiency so I think at this winters oil prices it will be a bit cheaper but the tradeoff is I never run the boiler to heat the house more than 68. The P61A heats the whole house at 70 so the wife might be telling me to fire the stove.
