Yeah. Missed that one. But if it works in Room Temp then QED the ESP and board have to be functional. We're missing some info here.

Agreed. He described above that he removed the ESP while it was running and when it was out the pellets started to feed more...makes sense since the ESP would cool upon removal.....

Harmans are interesting beasties. I enjoy occasionally matching wits with mine. Just when I think I understand it, it tosses me a curve. Reminds me of my gorgeous wife!

I normally run feed rate of 2 and stove temp at 1, until last night. Was suppose to get cold last night so I turned the Stove temp setting to 3 at around 8pm. At around 5am the smell of plastic got my arse out of bed from the second floor. Stove was winding down. within about 20 mins it had burned down to a idle. turning knobs didnt do anything.

I have cleaned the ESP, first with just a quick wipe with a towel leaving some black behind that was pretty stuck on. With no sign of improvement I pulled it again and this time used a fin grit sandpaper, what you would use to polish your car up. This got I would say 95% of it off.

What F4jock says above is what my first thought was, it over heated. I bought Blazers and have never run them before. So if the ESP got dirty enough overnight to freak out maybe it fed pellets far to fast and it burnt up. After unplugging in the off position for 1 min the Room temp settings seems to work fine without issue at all. I need to hit the dump before it closes and will try stove temp again when I get back.

Be careful how you clean the ESP. I use a paper towel and Windex or Soft Scrub. Just for my own edification, why in hell do you want to run in stove temp? Set the room temp you want and let the stove do the rest. Stove Temp mode obviates many of the best features of the Harman. And while I'm asking, did you clean the chamber or just the probe?

chamber was cleaned at the beginning of the season this year. I run in stove temp because the house is huge. Easier to keep the stove at a even keel then willy nilly, burns a lot more pellets in room temp going back and forth with the temp.

I've run in both modes and respectfully disagree with the "burns a lot more pellets " statement but it's your stove and your choice. I prefer not having to constantly mess with the thing. Stove in room temp maintains the place at an even 70 degrees. I have set up an air movement system to keep the entire house warm using ceiling fans and a thermostat. If you want to conserve use the stove's thermostatic setting in room temp mode. It turns down just as well as up.

If you are normally running a feed rate of 2 that sucker didn't overheat last night. You are severely limiting your stoves ability to heat your space with a feed rate that low. It should be set on 4. Run on Room Temp 70 tonight feed rate 4 and see how it goes.

well the feed rate was low because i barely had the stove on honestly. it was on idling most the time just to take the chill out of the house. been pretty decent during the days until this cold front went and ruined it lol. but yeah im running at 75 now feed rate 3, will put it up to 4 tonight when it dumps in temp again.

so you dont think it could have overheated with the feed rate down? even if the probe told it to keep feeding? as far as i can tell and i am new to all this but it seems to me feed rate controls how much it feeds each time it does feed. to keep it simply for conversation say 2 turns for feed set at 2 and 4 turns of the auger for feed 4. Did not think it effected how "often" it fed just the amount it fed.

Have you read the Harman sticky at the top of the main page? Or just click on the link in my signature. It explains feed rate. It's not something you constantly adjust. Harman recommends setting it at 4. That's what I and many others suggest as well.

You are incorrect on your understanding of feed rate. By putting on 2 if it needed more pellets it couldn't to maintain esp Temps if incoming air was cold more than likely. Feed rate is a like a restrictor plate. It will not feed that rate unless needed if it was on 4. A setting of 4 which is recommended by Harman is the most efficient operation of the stove. A setting of 2 set would limit the ability of the stove if more pellets were needed to maintain heat.

Room temp setting will ramp the fire up And down to maintain temp +/- 1 degree. Stove mode requires you to raise and lower the heat. Room temp is more efficient as it changes the pellet usage quicker than you ever will. I only use stove mode when it is really cold (teens or lower) to allow my gas heat to cycle on a little so my pipes below the house won't freeze. I set the stove temp at 4 or 5 and let the furnace maintain the temp overnight.

The higher the feed rate the faster and hotter the stove will run to get to needed temp. Like a car when you stomp on the gas it is not the most efficient mpg's and in this case pellet usage. Feed rate 4 has been determined to get you there but using the least amount of pellets.

i remember why the rate was so low. pellet shortage last year. I was down to 2 bags at one point. I was trying everything to keep heat coming and burn as little as possible. I was literally skirting the blower shutoff. Was sitting here in the next room with a winter jacket on. Figure some heat was better then no heat at all. Luckily there are a handful of nice people around that could spare from their extra.
Lesson learned, 5 tons in the barn at the start of this season.

I was literally skirting the blower shutoff. Was sitting here in the next room with a winter jacket on. Figure some heat was better then no heat at all. Luckily there are a handful of nice people around that could spare from their extra.

You still may have an issue but keep yourself warm for now and then see if your stove still works in Stove Temp at some point.

stove temp seems to be also working. I didnt let it run very long on it but it fed pellets multiple times and it didnt back down at all. before it was very spaced between feeds and would lose ground quickly. Ill run it longer tomorrow. get a good idea and know for sure its working as it should but ill be running room temp from here on.

Appreciate the help, not how i wanted to start the season. suppose better to get it out of the way now rather then 10 below.

nah I have no idea. there was a lot of it too. would think there would be some sort of sign what burnt up. all the wires in the back look fine including a nice coat of dust. the dust would have been gone if they cooked at all. I really have no idea what it was from.
I was tempted to get a tech out and the first place I looked at wanted $265 for the first hour and a half and said a full cleaning was mandatory and would take upwards of 2hours. At that point I would rather buy a new stove and enjoy a warranty. $300 before they even start to look at it and doesnt include parts, yeah ok.
