If he's local there is plenty to be had for purchase if need be.
Oh, and about 1-1/2 cord burnt so far...but that doesn't count all the elm I burnt this fall.
Michigan has had a very cold Fall.............brrrrrr
I have not had to buy wood but where do you know to get good seasoned wood around our area?
A buddy of mine has been getting cords of White Ash cut and delivered (not split) for $150 for 1 full cord right by your neck of the woods.
There are plenty of people around here selling wood...more than I've ever noticed. Most are "you pick up" type places but for a $180 he can get it delivered split (though, i don't like how small most people split). Where bouts' you at Hiram?

To estimate how much wood you need....
Take your best guess..... and multiply by 3
I'm heating 1600 sq. ft. ranch..... used about 5 chord of mixed hardwood last year.

phishheadmi said:Wow...I guess I better get cuttin'! I have about 6 face cords, mixed oak and maple and well seasoned, but still a little wet from rain/snow. That's all under cover or in the garage...I was thinking that was almost enough, but it sounds like I'll need significantly more...like triple that! Luckily, I have a lot of wood available, but we're now under about 2' of snow, so I'll have to dig it out, cut and split and get it under cover ASAP...sounds like I might be buying some as well!

I live just outside of Petoskey. Also, for those of you in SE Michigan, I talked to a buddy in the area who's an arborist and he's been taking down tons of Ash trees that've been attacked by the emerald ash borer...he says they can barely give the wood away and everyone in the area has tons of it laying around. I don't know what you have to do to get rid of the bugs, but it might be worth looking into...maybe putting an ad in craigs list or something for "free removal of downed trees".
