Now if there are other air suckers operating in the house that can over power the combustion blower it is possible for smoke to exit the stove through any opening that gives access however small to the fire box or the exhaust system.

Well last night i did a quick clean stove wasn't dirty just cleaned a day ago made sure the pan went in fully this time and turn her back on this time no smoke nothing dont know what that was, thanks guys for letting me know that your stove was the same ..just seamed a little weird that it has that gap guess one of travises designs..will be installing the OAK today even though the dealer told me it was a waste of time but we know were there coming from..

You might want to discuss the air intake/OAK considerations with Don2222 and others as it isn't a completely sealed system as delivered.

Yeah i was noticing that opening in the tube i was going to ask Don if by him covering the hole did it affect the stove in any way good bad etc....

Below is a pic of under my burnpot which shows that 1/8 gap clearly with a flashlight for illumination.
So that is not the issue.

Also the only thing I found by blocking the square hole in the Intake Plenum was when the weather outside has a very high dew point there is more caked ash in the burnpot and that is why the square hole is there. So I am thinking that the square hole does not need to be blocked in the shoulder seasons.

I did find by keeping the burnpot clean and a little spray graphite also keeps the caked ash from forming.

Also if you have not done this already, you should do the dollar bill test on the door gasket. My stove failed this test when it was brand new! The Door latches are very easy to adjust.

Don thanks a million i thought my new stove had a defective part...i ran it all night like i said earlier and nothing no smoke maybe the pan wasn't all the way in....i installed the OAK
today and now im getting ready to turn it on i was going to cover the hole but after reading what you said i will leave it alone.....

Don its funny you mention that because my failed when i did it 3 days ago bill just slipped out i adjusted the little nut and now the bill doesn't slip out... if i pull very hard it will give but it doesnt slip out....

Flex exhaust pipe is heavier than you need although it works fine.

I had the same problem and I went to AutoZone and purchased 1 3/4" Pre-Heater hose. The flex Metal Hose used from the old air cleaners to the Intake manifold. Works great see pic below:

Just ask for Part # 96022 !!

What would i do without you guys......i went crazy looking for that pipe today lowes, homedepot, local hardware...nothing...never dawned on me autoparts....and i refuse to go back to the rip off stove dealers...

Hey quick question i cranked the stove to setting 4 today for the first time and was getting this metal.like burning type of smell..the smell still in the house the stove is less than a week old and i was wondering maybe if the smell is normal for a new stove went around the stove once again with flashlight no visible fumes ...so im hoping this smell will go away...

one last question i installed the oak underneath the exhaust about 4 feet apart theres no way the exhaust smoke would come down that far right.my understanding the smoke goes up?

Hello Joey

Sure sounds like the break in smell since it is the 1st time you had it up to heat setting 4. I would not worry about that.

Also Four feet away from the flue should also be fine.

Did you see this "Ask This Old House" video on Installing a Pellet Stove?

Provided it isn't being forced it will try rising, just remember the exhaust stream is forced and thus it will head in the direction the vent is pointing a bit more than it otherwise would.

4 feet is more than enough, the stove manual should also speak to the minimum required distance.

How did your OAK come out? Below is a pic of my carburetor Air Filter Pre-Heater hose.

Also keep the stove looking good with a little shoe shine once a month or so. The Avalon comes with a factory black wax paste shine so I got some more at Lowe's. Just dust first and then apply using an old T-shirt rag.

It came out great let me tell you its like it was made for the damm Job....now im experimenting with pellets let me tell you theres alot of junk out there bought a few bags of different kinds and when i tell you theres some real garbage out there

some pellets leave so much ash its insane so far the best ones ive picked up are the Greenegold pellets there alittle more expense but low ash and my stove doesnt get black like the cheaper brands.....thats why i havent bought a ton yet trying different brands before i buy a ton or two...Don i painted the pipe with the high heat paint to match the rest of the black.......looks just like your setup....

The OAK setup now looks exactly like mine! Is that the fresh air damper lever I see on the wall?

Good going to test the pellets first. I did that also and then found it takes 3 tons to heat the whole house for the winter!
That's only about $600 !!

When I first got the stove there was only a small savings but this year pellets went down in price and oil went up so my neighbors are paying $550 to $650 every month for their oil delivery!!

Now they are all interested in Pellet Stoves!

P.S. I installed some Rope Light in the hearth and back wall!! See pic

Yes thats the damper level i bought the oak from the stove dealer when i open the box saw the damper level thought it was pretty cool.....i love your setup your stove looks like it sits on a throne.....Nice lighting effect...very nice

I went bonkers trying to find Heat Stove pipe. All I found was some lengths online and the length wasn't even listed. Good job on that. It's better than the stuff that comes in the OAKits from the manufacturers.

I went with the Lowe's Paste. It makes the stove look like the day it was delivered after two years!!
