my masonry chimney needs the top 6 feet or so rebuilt. one mason said we could take the brick down to inside the attic, install a rigid liner with an adaptor plate, and have the remainder as an insulated stainless chimney from the lower attic and through the roof. So from the attic floor to my basement (15-16 feet or so) would be the original masonry chimney (single flue) with a rigid ss liner, and the top would be selkirk superpro 2100 (Canada). it's an INSIDE chimney.
one mason said he never saw anyone do this with a WOOD stove, second guy who suggested it took back his offer for that option when i reminded him it was a wood stove, and a third guy just offered this option and when i mentioned the wood stove he said he has done it before... it seems the manufacturers sell the gear to do it.. he's WETT certified.
is this acceptable? is it recommended for use with a wood stove? (Drolet Baltic) Thanks!
