( cont. from previous post): swing one or the other doors closed and instant conversion. Not as good as a dedicated wood OR pellet boiler, but a clever compromise.
Financing issue: Finance industry AND insurance industry do not like solid fuel heating of ANY kind. Pellet boilers are too few and too new for either fin. and ins. indust. to like them yet. Solid fuel boilers DO NOT add value to the real estate. Only value is to YOU the present occupant. BUT…all that hardware if installed and used properly CAN pay for itself in a pretty short time….getting you off the Fossil-Fuel "teat."

No alternative energy source that is not automatically fired will add any value to ones real estate or personal property. That is the way any number of bank appraisers, bankers, real estate professionals, developers etc have put it to me.
Whatever it is, it has to work by itself.
That leaves out cord wood period.
For the better pellet equipment that doesn't require manual cleaning a few times a week it opens the door quite wide.

I had a realtor look at our house recently as we might list, she was very interested in the boiler system... But not until I explained the storage system and how it automatically switches back to oil. She felt that it could be a selling point to some potential buyers to be able to throw some wood in at their convenience to help offset heating costs.

She said it wouldn't 'add' value but it might make the house sell a little quicker if the right buyer came along.
