BIG Beech Score!

Hey Bigbarf, Tell that tree guy to have his friend that lives in East Tennessee to start dropping lots of hardwood in my yard.

You'll do good with that beech. I've had some over the years. I got a good red oak score today from a friends house. The post powder beatles got to the outside of it pretty good but well worth getting. It splits easy with a Fiskars. I may not even get the gas splitter out this time.

Keep taking that wood. People will see it and think your either crazy or in the wood business like they do me.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I wanted to ask Embers how he likes that Quad Yosemite that is in his picture? Seems like a nice stove.....

Definitely beech likes 2 years but some will burn it in a year. Best to get it stacked and covered else it tends to break down a bit fast.

I've been burning a lot of beech this winter that was S&S for 18 months but that included two summers (S&S in the spring). It's burning great. I'd wait until 2015 so it can have two summers and you'll be golden. You're going to love that beech! Dense, burns hot, splits decent (except for the crotches of course), and the smooth, thin bark makes for less mess on the floor when you bring it in and load it.

Well I got most of the 3 loads moved out back to the wood lot. All that's left to move are the BIG pieces of red oak and beech that need a little noodling. I'm exhausted from lugging this stuff around the last 2 days, I think I need a break before its splitting time

I went down to the stihl dealer Friday morning to pick up a bigger saw to help with these big logs. The plan was to get an ms271, but the dealer didn't have any. He could've ordered one but I needed the saw, so I picked up a 291 . Ill get some action pics up of it soon . It did great in that big wood!

The 291 was a joy to use. I had the dealer set it up with a 20" bar and yellow chain and it pulled great through those big pieces of oak and beech. I could get it to bog if I really buried the dogs in, but I was really impressed with the power. Maybe its because I was just stepping up from a 170
