I think you may have trouble getting the heat upstairs with a wood stove in the basement. I would look into something that will tie into your furance since you have to replace it anyway. 3000 sq ft on two floors is alot to heat with a traditional wood stove.

You will have to replace the water heaters with power vents in addition to the furance, which adds to your total cost.

If you're set on a traditional wood stove, the king would probably be your best bet but as others had mentioned is 8" flue.

I don't know for sure but a wood furance would probably be more cost effective than a blaze king also.

I know no one wants to hear this, but........I have less than a grand in my whole setup, and thats not bad. Cheap, yeah. Its not ideal to most, but it suits me fine. I just dont see what the problem is. Im on winter #3, no problems. Oh, and I think I spent 400 on wood...2 pick up loads, delivered. Im not saying to buy my stove, but with a used one, you never know what it went thru. Small crack, faulty this and that. Hope you get what you want.

Why do you keep bumping old threads? On top of that you have been asked multiple times for pics of your setup and seem very reluctant to provide anything other then car comparisons between ferrari and (honda?). Which im pretty sure the comarison would be closer to a junkyard car with all the ball joints and tie rod ends about to fail to any new car.

Holy folk....cant even reply to threads now....I have my own input, if you dont like it, dont read it.....my setup is cheap, unsafe, and gonna kill me I guess. Lets see your awesome unit. You jealous? Oh, and what did it cost you? not 900 bucks i would bet money on that. Probably 9000. And why do they keep old threads smart ash? For the info.

Well I actually posted all my install when it went down and no it wasnt 9k... it was around 2.5 - 3k in parts and I did the install myself. But that was 9ish years ago. And I no way said you cant respond to threads. I simply asked 2 questions. Why do you keep bumping old threads, and why are you so reluctent to show your install while pushing it?

And again your the one who keeps making comparisions just like the previous post you made.

You said why do I bump old threads. Why do they keep them then? Why should I show you pics of my "death trap"? Ive said what it is. Double wall STOVE pipe, with a clean out, that I do every month. How often do you do it? probably pay to have it done. I get run down for every thing I say. Oh well, you think I care?

Again you make a lot of asumptions and most are wrong. I clean my own system.. once a year. I get between 2 and 4 cups of powder. And they keep old threads so if the original posters need to add to them they are there rather then make new ones with no back story. Or for others who are searching might find info from them that is helpfull. Pretty much like every other forum on the internet.

And I got to wonder..... Why do you need to clean your system every month, that seems pretty excessive to me, unless your just being very careful, but based on your prior posts, careful doesn't seem to be a main concern of yours.

Most people running decent stoves properly through a good insulated chimney absolutely don't need to clean more than once a year. Many can go longer than that. You on the other hand are using uninsulated double wall connector pipe as a chimney. It is going to build up much more and while a proper chimney will protect the home in the event of a chimney fire. Yours probably won't.

I understand that you feel you can't afford a better setup and that may be true. But stop pretending your setup is safe or proper and stop recommending others follow your lead. I simply will not tolerate you making these recommendations any more.

Joining is voluntary, and so is leaving. There are plenty of other sites where one can go on about their chosen lifestyle, cutting corners, breaking rules, etc.

The issue here is that by using posts as a platform for blatant breaking of the basic rules of safety it becomes a suggestion to others that this is ok, as long as you can get away with it. This is a risk not only to one's home, family, and neighbors, but it can be potentially harmful to others that read these postings later on. It's like bragging that one has put off fixing the brakes on the car and running on bald tires and happy to do so. Sooner or later, someone or many, are going to get hurt. This helps no one and it's not what Hearth.com is about.
