Can I ask why people are talking degrees in the thousands when VC suggests that their cat lights off around I believe 300?

I don't have the manual in front of me, but that may be a reference to what the temperature of the stove should be before closing the damper and engaging the CAT.
Once you close the damper and after air is passing through the CAT for some time, you want the CAT thermometer holding in the 1000-1200 degree range

I think that seems good, I am trying to follow back on this thread is this a new VC Encore? You'll know if the CAT lights off when it starts getting up into the 1000-1200 range. FYI mine had an alarm on the AT100 that I had to change, I think I reset it to 1500 degrees.

Actually this is incorrect.. the cat starts to light off at 600 degrees... the cat is burning well at 1000 when you get to that temperature.. you really shouldn't see anything out of the stack... at 1500.. im starting to think im having an issue.. At 1600 You start saying WTF...

Yeah, better said than me. The initial light off I am not so sure or concerned about, but if I am getting a nice hot fire going what I meant was I want to see it get up to the 1000-1200 range and stay up there for some time - then I know the CAT is definitely lit and functioning properly.

reread your manual... thats way off
yup you are right, not sure where or how I thought that..

From the manual: The catalyst will initiate combustion of smoke and particulates at 500° - 600°F (260° - 315°C), half the temperature normally required for unaided secondary combustion.

I remember with my old encore, the optimal burn was: cat light off at 650-700 (close bypass), cat temp would climb to 1400-1450 (full load off gassing), 1 to 2 hours later it would settle at 1100 -1200. Stovetop 450-500. Eight hours later cat 350-400, stovetop 350, many hot coals left for restart. Repeat all winter😜.

Hey all, cheers to another year of burning!.... and hopefully staying below 1600 !!!

Just got my auber 100 in today. How do I set this thing up? I didn’t get any paperwork with mine. I know I have to cut the ends off the thermocouple. Should I just strip a little wire and stick it in to the green thing that goes in to the auber? There are 3 spots that I can put the cables. Where should I put the wires? Anyone have a link to an online manual?

There is a manual online but it seemed it was opposite of what it was. Mine is set up like this. Just stripped the thermocouple and put the wires in. Then set the alarms. Used a 1/8 drill hit and turned it with my hand through the gasket material. Probe in and then tied it off in the back to keep it in place. Here are two pics of what mine looks like.

Thanks! That first pic is what I needed.

That is actually the reverse of the manual. The manual instructions red negative is the left. But when I had it set up it was backwards. So if your Temps drop from ambient after you light it then you'll have to switch the wires

Hmmm brand new getting EEEE on the display. Possibly a bad thermocouple?

I had that at first. Was just a bad connection on the wires. Seemed to be very sensitive. I had to play with the connection to get it to work. Then it eventually showed me ambient temp. I ended up using the little connectors they sent and made a loop after feeding the wire through then crimped them

This was it. It was set to p10 or something. Thanks! Also now that I’ve taken my connectors off I’ll add the loops just for more security.
Got it all set up in the stove. I was just able to bend the original holder and kind of wedge it in. Looking at the old thermometer I have some pretty bad burning habits.

I debated whether or not I actually needed it and am so glad I installed this. I think I had the other problem and was running the stove way too hot all the time. Wanted to make sure I had it up to temp and then my house would end up being 90 degrees and all the windows open. With this it is like driving a go kart

I have to say.. you guys are doing great.. I just opened up the thread to see whats going on and you guys are helping one another out and the stoves are running the way were ment to be burned.. VERRY proud of the group.. keep it up.. share the knowledge.. SOME people take the advice others dont.. which is ok.. you guys are doing good and heading in the right direction..

I know that my wife has never looked at the old cat probe. I also know that some times I just give up and let it go. Also I’m agarose of it running away from me so I don’t burn it hot enough. I hope that having this out as a reminder will help both of us out.

Also wanted to mention that my positive and negative were reversed on the thermocouple as well. Once I had it working I just grabbed the thermocouple and it went up, I let go and it went down.

I have become fascinated with getting this thing in cruise control mode. Next battle is keeping the glass clean

My next test is to see how cold my basement gets without my heat on. I am only 2/3 underground so I am a little concerned it may not stay warm down there when we are consistently cold
