What is up with that OAK?OK so I have taken this forums advice and done some insulating on my poured concrete basement wall. I have done the area around the stove and 10 to 12 feet beyond it each direction there is probably about 30 feet of wall that is still not insulated is it worth doing? How much heat am I losing through that poured basement wall without insulation?

Air intake should draw outside air from no higher than the bottom of the firebox3” goes to vent in siding. Why?
OK I did not know that that will not be an option for me it does seem to be working fine the other day when it was cold I felt the hose that was Definitely cold from the outside air that it was pulling in should I just disable it?Air intake should draw outside air from no higher than the bottom of the firebox
OK. I did put a piece of drywall behind the stove for better fire protection. I will also cover the top part of the foundation what about the other 30 feet or so of concrete foundation wall that is farther away from the Stove how much heat and I losing from the amount slated concrete wall farther from the stove? The largest temperature differential is at the top of the foundation that is exposed to the outside air, you should insulate right to the top.
AND if that is exposed polystyrene on the walls, it must be covered with drywall or other fire rated material.
OK thanks that was exactly what I was trying not to do I have a king on a 6 inch exterior chimney 8 inch double wall on the inside so I was trying to minimize the negative pressure effect. The house is newer and pretty airtight so I was trying to make sure I made up that air and minimize the smoke spillage
Yes you should unhook it for sureOK I did not know that that will not be an option for me it does seem to be working fine the other day when it was cold I felt the hose that was Definitely cold from the outside air that it was pulling in should I just disable it?
You are still loosing massive amounts of heat through the uninsulated walls.OK. I did put a piece of drywall behind the stove for better fire protection. How is it working so far on the 6"? Also it looks like you have a surface thermometer on that doublewall pipe. If so it is pointless you need a probe to tell you anything thereOK thanks that was exactly what I was trying not to do I have a king on a 6 inch exterior chimney 8 inch double wall on the inside so I was trying to minimize the negative pressure effect. I definitely will and unhook it when I get home. My probe thermometer has just showed up I’I definitely will and unhook it when I get home. My probe thermometer has just showed up From Amazon I’ll be installing it tonight. I will work on insulating the rest of the basement walls over the next few days. Overall I think it’s been working pretty good on a 6 inch I definitely get some smoke spillage on refill if there is anything but coals left in the firebox. Overall I’m very happy it burns long hot if needed. Huge improvement over my woodchuck wood furnace. Huge improvement over my woodchuck wood furnace. I don’t think it matters how long the horizontal run for the OAK, as long as it remains below the bottom of the fireboxI definitely will and unhook it when I get home. The floor is a stickier problem since the stove is already installed, but as a short term measure just putting rugs or carpet remnants down can help some. (Remember to honor your clearances, though.)
What he said...insulate all the walls. All exposed exterior masonry (including the floor) is pretty much just an infinite heatsink.
OK. I did put a piece of drywall behind the stove for better fire protection
Lol not really.Great!
It is a handsome beast.
Yeah, even if the thermo cuts the air, that high draft was probably pulling air in through the door gasket, around the glass, etc, and flushing some of your heat up the flue.
I go for the volume discount, and a high percentage of active ingredients.

Not on the BK. I do on my VC. I tried putting it on the BK but the probe I have is 6” and when I inserted it, it rested on the cat. I did not like it.Any of you guys running an Auber CAT probe ??
If so what temps are you seeing ??
My probe is the same as yours,,, I had a buddy make me a 2” wide X 1 1/2” H, aluminum puck, with a 3/8” hole in the center, that way I could set the probe at 2”, held in place with hi temp silicone between the puck and the probe..Not on the BK. I do on my VC. I tried putting it on the BK but the probe I have is 6” and when I inserted it, it rested on the cat. I did not like it.
Any idea where I can get a 3” high temp probe?
