The VC owners have had enough of their thread being 100 pages smaller than the BK thread every year, and decided to stage a coup from the inside. :)
Hundreds of pages smaller!

The VC thread is pretty much dead.

Three potential reasons:

1. All stoves are operating as intended.
2. Everyone is busy rebuilding their VCs after the
burn season.
3. Yard work, yard work.....yard work.

Heard tell that BKVP offers a pack of pineapple Kool Aid with every brown Ashford 30.

I was at a cottage show this weekend and one of the booths had a Chinook 20 on display. Very nice looking stove, pleasing to the eye. Definitely more modern looking which I like and think it would fit my layout better.

Wife still thinks it is "ugly" therefore the Princess it is.

I don't doubt that the original cat that came with the stove would work fine in midwinter for 20 years. I would even use it that way, but it costs me $10 in gasket every time I change the cat.

That's $20 a year to add 33% to the lifespan of a $200 cat. With a 33% boost, the shoulder season cat lives 3 years, at a cost of $60 in gaskets, and saving $66 in replacement cat costs. Doesn't add up for me.

Not sure which you mean does the vinegar bath give 33% more (3500 hrs +/- ) or are you saying you would get 33% longer out of a new cat if you swapped it out for an older (20 yr) one when running harder.

Your time/toil also enters in overall cost with 2 swaps every season and a shut down. Both swapping or vinegar, if only 33%, would result in 2 gaskets that season.

Regards

That's it Ash,. How'd we do ?[emoji41]
And, BTW, today's forecast is sleet, snow, freezing rain depending on altitude. Not in Philly.
Some of us are heating a wee bit more space than you, CI.

That could be a good sign.

We'd be doing even better page-wise if SOMEONE didn't keep yoinking posts out of the thread and dropping them into the Inglenook!

That is the steady d̶r̶u̶m̶s̶t̶i̶c̶k̶ drumbeat of BK discussion happening. (Also it is my basement window.)

4. They drank the kool-aid and bought a BK

That is what I did. Sold my VC for $150. BK makes the best stoves. You won't get 30 hours out of a VC. Tiny sparks under the ash heap don't count.

No Kool Aid with VC.

Theres gotta be some type of “Kool Aid” involved if one were to buy a VC product after so many years of bad support and poor products. I’m not sure why someone would willfully choose this product after all the bad reports. Clearly these people have the internet. Then again, people keep buying Chrysler products long after the internet came to be...

By posting those pics I did not mean to bring a VC discussion into a BK thread.

I am excited about my new soon to be installed Princess. I will share the install pics for sure!

I made a very uneducated (no, I did not research at all) decision to buy a VC stove back in 2006. It was a beautiful stove but it was a mistake to buy it!! VC should have never release that line of a product (everburn system) it was a complete failure of a system, in my opinion.

Burning in a BK is way different than burning in a VC, in many good ways. It will be interesting to read about your new BK burning experience. The rear mounted electronic and stove-top thermometer will not be needed!

Live and learn! Wether it be blind luck or an educated decision, at least you purchased the right chainsaws.;)

How big is a face cord there? It doesn't even have a fixed size here.

A short/face cord is what Canadians usually refer to and is 4'x8' x 16" (3 short cords (face cords) = 1 logging cord) this is what fits into your stove and usually is what most cut to. 48" does not fit in my current stove. I can fit 24 cords in my basement storage or 24/3 = 8 full cords not commonly referred to in Canadian but I see the confusion.

"Face cord" mostly just means "WARNING: UNSCRUPULOUS SELLER" here. For example, here's a local craigslist ad:

Note that "full cord" has a size; his other two options don't. You also get it in a big jumblety pile so he can be long gone by the time you figure out how much wood it is. Don't worry; you can always LEAVE MESSAGE !!

What is weird is the difference in price between a facecord and a full cord.

Not uncommon to get a discount with volume. His delivery costs are the same for each portion of a cord.
