I think the shortage is starting early, I been grabbing what I can find, I'm good for this season but horting for 2015-2016 since prices jumped $50 a ton I'm sure they will spike next season also, the price of oil vs pellets is closing in.

Lowe's in Middletown My had Cheat river for 260@ Tom this weekend. I have no experience with this brand and as usual reviews are all over the place:

^ I'm currently burning Cheat River. They burn good for me, I like them. Bought 3 tons of them.

maybe the pellet industry has gone the way every other commodities have.....claiming shortages to hike prices up. Seems to be the norm now. Oh dear there was a raid in fugazi....better raise pellet prices. I got 7 tons this year at an extortionate rate and I think ill be going back to prpane and wood next year. I never thought id be saying that.

Grabbed 2 tons this weekend for the shoulder season used the 10% coupon and added on my 10% military coupon, a hair over 200$

already had 3tons of Orfords hardwood on hand that was 269$

I think its hoarding. Fear of a shortage is contributing to the shortage.

If you're a Lowe's customer, seeing the tons stay there for you to buy at their price 2 tons at a time, rather than get bought up by the flatbed load and hauled off by another retailers to sell them at $2 a bag more, is something that will build your loyalty to Lowe's. That's got real bottom-line value for Lowe's, as well as Lowe's customers. In a truly free market, the retailer is free to not sell when they see greater long-term profits in withholding the goods. Since they can't discriminate by who you are (say, a competing retailer, or the wrong religion), limiting how much one customer can buy is the fairest option.

Im seeing in my area the box stores Lowes,HD,TSC, True-value etc are selling the " basic box store" brands at the same exact price, if one goes up they all go up same with a sale decrease. There is no competition this year, so you can't price match.

I will be offering up my surplus pellets to unprepared locals at a significant mark up.

I agree, I thought I would never get back on oil when I started burning pellets in 2011, now I'm starting to rethink things.

I seen that last year in February at the peak of the shortage, posts all over craigslist, cheat river, Gts, etc. $10-15 a bag. Lol
