Certain pipe sections are resistance welded instead of laser welded. Resistance welding is like a continuous spot weld. The pipe is slipped over the bottom copper arm and the large copper disk moves to the left, pressing down and welding the pipe to itself. A resistance welded joint must overlap, while a laser welded one is completely flat. The large tub holds cooling water which constantly flows over the welder head when in operation.
