Do you have a coal stove? Coal stoves are setup differently then woodstoves, with coal the air comes through the bottom grates to feed the fire and get proper air flow / performance, with just a plain woodstove the air usually comes through and washes down the front of the stove (air wash) and feed the fire front to back, coal doesn't really work in this case, plus you can damage your stove with the higher temps of coal and if you not running a stainless steel flue you will damage you chimney pipe. So … not a good idea unless you have a coal stove setup.

I think that was meant as a joke. By itself, pine is fine to burn as long as it is fully seasoned.

They make coal stoves that burn wood, but the couple I have looked at have you shut off the coal air intake that comes in from the bottom when you burn wood.

Don't try to burn coal in a wood stove.

Potbelly stoves are horrible woodstoves.
