We looked into an oil contract about one month ago (when prices were lower) and they were $2.39/gallon plus tax then (not sure what it's up to now but I know its higher). We use a minimum of 600 gallons per winter season, usually more so pellet prices are a little cheaper or about the same, depending what we purchase. The house is warmer too (if we kept it as warm with oil as we do with pellets, there would be no contest - oil would be significantly more expensive).

Boo Boo - I wish we could get for those prices! I believe the Cleanfires and LGs for us were about $334 - $344 per ton.

But having your home evenly heated not hot in one room, cold in the other is .....................priceless!
I would NEVER pay $300 a ton for pellet's you people are FOOL's

That's just it - once the stove is on and the heat circulates, my house is more evenly heated than with the baseboards. Don't know how, but it is. And my oil heat is just as or more expensive than my pellets so I'm paying those prices no matter what, its just a matter of who gets my money. That's what you pay when you live near the biggest city in the world.

I'm not sure how that is possible - there must be a problem with your baseboard system. Maybe an airlock somewhere or a zone valve not opening? Or improper desing to start with. Pretty hard to beat a baseboard system for heating comfort, although some in-floor heat added in would likely take it up a notch.

Some homes are Absolutley not set up for a pellet stove due to rooms being divided like a Maze..
that is when as some pellet downer:p few posts back stated the scenario where 1 room is really hot and others are cold..
well, naturally.. Pellet heat doesn't like to go around corners and solid walls.
In that case then yes.. better to use a full house system..
but as I said in a previous post here, if u really like the pellet heat and can afford it,
then stay with it... gonna have to pay to heat your home one way or another.

Even if they want to, and are happy?
Because they don't look at it the same way as you?

I guess people that buy a Cadillac are fools, because a Kia will do the same thing?
come on man... we can't all feel the same way about everything.

EVERYTHING across the board is expensive here on Long Island. $300+ pellets is normal.

Any time you want to come pay my propane bill (3.11/gal - if they are still honoring my lock in price from last summer) while trying to keep it near the same temp as I do with the pellet stoves, be my guest (oh, and the basement wouldn't be heated either). Bedrooms would still be colder than they are with pellets though because of the way the idiots who built this house put in the FHW. I'm happy with my pellets - don't know why that upset you enough that you sling insults.

Hey - I didn't say that. Why is my name in that quote?

Huh, that is strange - I used the Reply button. I'll edited it to quote the correct person - sorry that it indicted the you the first time!

PelletGirl, let me know how you make out. If you score a good deal I might follow suit.

Ranger, GTS is out of pellets right now - they expect more Lignetics over the summer, most likely August. They can't quote price as they don't know their cost right now, but said they were $350/ton last season.

I did find pellets currently at Lowe's but never heard of the brand - Timber Heat. They are $5.58/bag.

Paid 254.00 ton for early buy Lignetics...
