It would likely get them to provide a little more attention to your wood theft issues though
Does that qualify as an automatic weapon?? Only problem here is handguns and automatic weapons. You can only carry a handgun if you are police, Brinks drivers or a gang member.
A stick of dynamite hidden in the wood would be a deterrent to further theft.
My wife suggested planting poison oak or ivy around it.
She said since we would only use the wood after the pants have died she didnt see any issues.... not sure the wood would not absorb oils etc... dont want to go out on a late night to grab more wood after work and get poisoned oak.... hehehe see what I did there?

I live in an area devoid of almost all crime, and the cops will come into your driveway at 11PM and say they are there for a noise complaint if they see you smoking a cigarette. They'll come for stolen firewood.

I don't know about actually hurting them, but I bet a few red painted wooden sticks with wires going to a blinky electronic device that starts chirping when motion is detected would clear out any intruders pretty quick!

Someone I knew made one of those as part of a Halloween costume. Afterwards, he left it on a shelf where it was visible from the sidewalk, and forgot all about it...
...until someone called the cops.

Not sure making a bomb and injuring someone would be the wisest decision. Trail cams are cheap, other non-lethal non-dangerous booby traps out there. Look up how to make a simple pressure pad, hooked up to a loud alarm or other device. Can be made cheaply and would scare the hell out of someone.

+1. Especially because it is only revenge, but has no deterrent.
The idea of revenge might sound good but at the end of the day it doesn't keep wood in your stacks. Deterrent or legal justice is what you're after.
Why, if no one sees them leave they cant prove they took it. Proof goes both ways.

WRONG!! Your last two post are some of the worst advice I have seen here. Do you realize your instructing people to possibly kill someone, quite possibly a child. Putting up a sign does not excuse it and would not cut it in a court of law.

Strictly speaking I suppose that this does have elements of a deterrent, and that technically it may firstly be the thief's fault for whatever injuries. Nonetheless, try convincing a jury that a 3 yr old deserved to die because his bum dad stole an armful of firewood. Better yet, try convincing a jury that your own child deserved to accidentally die in your attempt to...
"Protect and defend" takes effect before or during the crime. Exploding wood takes effect after the crime.
And no I'm not a lawyer. You'll get much better advice and rationale during a legal consultation--please report back what the attorney says.
Or, more likely, the suggestion and defense of putting explosives in firewood was just for a laugh. Assuming so, I'm glad to know that everyone really understands it's a bad idea and that no one is actually promoting it, and that our posts were just reinforcing what we already really know.

Unless this becomes a routine thing, I'd bet almost zero action is required. Caulk it up to lessons learned and move on. It is likely an isolated incident.
I had a brand new $8,000 sportbike stolen from outside my apartment in Greenville, SC. Cops didn't even show up. They even had the nerve to ask me "is there any evidence?" I said, "isn't that what you guys are paid to find out?".
This was after I had explained the scene in detail.
