As to convection........with my insert, I rarely use the blower, convection heat seems to be more than adequate. That is mainly to heat our family room. When using the blower after reaching optimum temps in the insert, it can heat much more of the house once employed. Our insert is stationed on ground level with one level below and two levels above. In the event of a boiler failure, I could essentially heat the house, or three floors with the insert blower and hopefully the basement level would not freeze, along with the major portion of my plumbing.
