at first when I saw the white wood, saw that you were in VA, and said it wouldn't split and before I looked close to the pics and chuckled to myself and thought you had sweet gum. I've split untold cords of wood over the last 30 years and nothing compares to sweet gum. the fibers are all intertwined and the splits break off all twisted even though the wood is perfectly straight. horror of horrors.

but after looking at it, it does indeed look like hickory.
