How heavy is it ?
I agree it looks like poplar. Poplar is light like pine and ash being a hardwood will be much heavier.
 
tulip and yellow poplar is only light after it starts to season. From the pics he didn't split it yet, therefore poplar would be almost as heavy as oak with the bucked rounds.
