Idk. Pretty dense grain, seems like hard wood. Too stringy when split to be poplar. Looking again at the second, splits like maple, but not as clean as poplar. Less dense than the first (which is why I thought poplar), but again, seems denser than a softwood. Is it possible it is pine? Maybe jack pine or Austrian?
#1= walnut?View attachment 171663 View attachment 171664 Just picked up a load of wood (see my other thread) Thought it was oak, but doesn't smell like it. The other stuff splits real easy, maybe poplar?
Interesting... I've never seen any maple with bark as thick as the first pics...Sugar maple for the first set of pics. second set is maple as well might be silver but could be young sugar maple to.
I thought about cotton wood for the first but it does look a bit stringy and the redish underbark which is why I thought hickory. Not enough pics for the second one.First looks like cottonwood to me. I'd guess Norway maple on the other.
