That sounds "fazed". ==c
Yeah, well, I'm entitled to be fazed by a record-breaker like this one. You realize muncipal water mains froze and broke all over Vermont in mid-February? Cold spells I can deal with. The Arctic literally moving down and sitting on us for six weeks -- maybe more since it ain't over yet -- is another thing.

You weenies down in Virginia would run home screaming in a week.

Set records here from the 1800s. Call DC. They had 34 water mains bust by the middle of February. I haven't heard the final count.

Like I told a member last night. There is a reason that I don't live in Vermont. ;lol Hell, I am from Texas...

Ha. Water mains in DC would probably freeze after a week at 20 degrees. I jest, but seriously, water mains are put well below the historical frost line-- which is one hell of a lot deeper up here than it is in DC.

Honesty forces me to admit that Vermonters start passing out when summer temperatures hit 85. Me, I'll take cold over heat any day. But really, six full months, and maybe more, of winter is a little much to take for any non-Eskimo.

Like I said in Feb. -5 is -5 no matter where you are. Ya want the phone number I used to give member North of 40 every year? For Atlas Van Lines. ;lol

-5? Seriously? One or two nights at -5 is a piece of cake. Try a month straight of -5 to -20. And FYI, it's the obligation of every northeasterner to b!tch about the weather. We have to swear an oath shortly after birth.

Hang in there. Summer is coming. Unless you have Winter like the members in Ontario. Winter, Thursday and then Winter.

32 days here where the high never broke above 0F. thats cold no matter where you are from. i'm just waiting for summer so i can betch about the heat...

I work for local water dept. we never had our water mains freeze however this year few of a private water services did freeze something I never had seen in my twelve years career. Frost was 3 feet deep or even more. We had 37 water main breaks this year so far, that's a record all that due to a ground movements which is mostly caused by freezing or thawing. All that said I like winter.

I'm the water superintendent for our town. I've had more freeze ups and breaks this year than in the last 10 years combined. Frost is down 6 feet deep on the repairs we've had to dig up.

Wow six feet that's deep. Now you gone have more breaks when it's going to start thawing.

Sadly you're right ;sick Trying to talk the powers that be into investing in a "jetter" before that happens. But i'm sure you know how that works.

4F here this morning, had the stove running like a champ when i left the house this morning.

We had our share of problems to, we require all 3phase underground primary to by in 5" schedule 40 conduit at a depth of 42", we had a couple cases of underground faults and realized that wire was frozen solid in the pipe due to water intrusion, so we had to hang temp primary tied off in the tree's until the ground thawed last week. Some of the old timers said it was one of the longest cold periods they have ever witnessed. Guess I'm apart of a lot of history in the power company, when Irene hit the company said they have never seen flooding / electrical loss this bad in there history, then the October snow hit and the power company reported more broken poles and replaced cross arms than Irene, then the derecho hit and the company said it was the largest land square miles to outages ever in the history of any company in the whole Mid-west / Northeast, then Sandy hit and the company said Sandy had more damage / power loss than all the previous mentioned storms combined. Hurray for me?

Linemen are saints. Big hooray kennyp!

And nothing for the water guys? We freeze our behinds in winter to make sure that people get water and no hooray for us? Just kidding. Those storms didn't hurt water dept. much, but because we are municipality for two weeks after we were working everyday with every piece of equipment clearing up derbies. Too bad I wasn't burning wood yet.

That's probably similar to the oath that Pacific Northwesters take promising to complain about the rain throughout our lives.
