I have no problem leaving with for a long period with the stove on.I put 105 pounds in the hopper and go. I won't set it on a high setting but I leave it on. The oil furnace is always set to come on at 65 just in case.
My stove runs 24/7, the only time I shut it off is for a cleaning.

I too was nervous its only natural but just run it!
Even my nervous wife is now ok with it you'll be fine its pellets nor 20" logs spitting embers!!
Its the only way to get home to temp and save oil $$$

I'm sure many of us do, but if I go away for the night, it stays running. I have hopper extensions, so there is plenty of fuel.

This is our sixth year of paying the oil man much less ! My stove runs 24/7 unless its getting a Bath ! I figure it this way if I can run it while I sleep and trust it why wouldnt I trust it when Im gone ????

I run mine 24\7 I do turn the temp down just a few degrees before I leave for work. I would rather pay the price for pellets than the $6.38\gallon heating oil price right now. Jay

Mine is a little undersized for the house, so I shut it down when I leave for work, let the oil heat warm up some of the remote rooms, and then when I get home I dump the burnpot and light it up. On Friday I clean the stove when I get home, as I do run it 24/7 over the weekend.

When I first installed mine, I was hesitant to leave it on when I wasn't home. A few months later, my stove runs perfect and I haven't had any problems. I typically run mine at a low level when I am not home and crank it up a bit when I get home.

ive been around wood burning stoves since i was born, so i never had the nervousness
that some people have or had about leaving a stove going while not home.

like has been said, if its installed correctly, there shouldnt be anything to worry about

I'm tired of burning oil so I'm considering running the stove to keep the house at 60 degrees or so when I'm at work. What do you guys think? Who runs their stove when they are at work? Good idea or not?

My pellet stove starts in October and runs on it's own till April. When it is colder the wood stove is used. If no one is home, oh well.

Second year with a stove, I wondered at first but it runs 8-10hrs a day while everyone is at school or at work. If we go away I stuff every square inch of the hopper so there is that much more time before the oil kicks on.

I am sure like most when you first run your stove you are nervous. i did not run it when i was not home. but then my oil burner would kick on and waste oil and money. after a month of that and wasting 300 on oil BURN BABY BURN only shut if off to clean or if the house is to warm even when its on its lowest setting i shut it down. i keep my stove on stove temp did not run a thermostat for it. only use a bag a day or less on days when the weather is over 32 and when its cold 1.5 bags but i live on long island its not that cold here for long. love the savings. and recommend these stoves to everyone in conjunction with this site thanks to all for all the help and knowledge

I would not run my first generation Whitfield unattended because it has no safety systems.. The Harman has a safety system as well as most tested home appliances. My small gas stove is the backup for pellet stove. 75 percent fill of propane still and half way through the second year on the fill. Hopper extention has paid for itself as will keep stove running for nearly a four day weekend of low fire. Proper install and good maintenance equal peace fo mind and saves $$$

I have no problem loading up the hopper and taking off for 24 hours and leave it running on 1. I have done it foe so lone I dont even give that a thought. I worry more about if I left the coffee pot on or not. lol

They all run all the time, unless, of course, they're getting cleaned or have run out. Redundant stoves, we'll never be too very cold should someone forget to load one up. So nice to be warm AND avoid the oil man!!

I run mine constantly. My only limiting factor is me dog. I don't like to leave her for more that 8 hours. I just make sure the stove has enough pellets before I go out and then let it rip. It is any different that your furnace or boiler?
