Good afternoon!

I just did my first deep cleaning on my Harmon p42i and noticed this white material above the burn pot behind the flame guide.

I’m wondering if this normal? Or if there is something defective with the stove.

Thanks!

Burn pot weldment has a white gasket between it and the stove back wall in bolts to, it almost sort-of might be part of that. I used a very similar replacement burn pot in my old VC Reliance (it contains a lot of Harman parts, and it's original burn pot had cracked open welds), it used a white gasket too. I think the gasket is some asbestos and a bonding agent, maybe I'm wrong. Picture of old gasket, it was stuck to the stove back panel, I didn't replace it as it looked fine. Seems to me that the new replacement gasket maybe has a tab where it was cut out.
I think you have no problem.

Gasket - my P43 also has that.

I believe it’s made of lytherm

Looks like it may be time for me to think about replacing the gasket for both stoves looking at that second to last bullet point. I haven't noticed being able to see the gasket on the P61a - although on the P43 I just glimpse a tiny edge of it at one of the slots that are along the backside of the assembly and I'm pretty sure the P61a doesn't have those slots.
