Trying to get some leaf photos. Some free wood about 30 min away. Pretty sure it’s red maple but 100%. Looking for anyone else’s opinion. Pretty confident it’s not sugar maple. I’ll probably pass on it if it’s silver but I don’t think it’s silver. Bark doesn’t look quite right for silver

I want to say it's red, hard to tell from the pics, but could be silver. I'll lean towards red. Soft maple, whichever it is. I never liked soft maples before but, I've had some decent BTUs from a full load. Yes, you do have to maintain that fire for an all day burn. I was at every 2-2.5hrs with cold temps outside. It's helping to save my better hardwoods.

It is nice straight stuff. I might take a ride and grab some later this week if it’s still there

I agree - most likely red, with silver as a close second. However since the bark shingles don't appear to peel/curl away from the trunk I think it's more likely red.

Another vote most likely red...

While it's just photos, from the photos it's kind of shouting "red maple" to me.

I love red maple for firewood, while silver is a dud, so I understand the question.

I like the red over silver myself. I've been recently burning silver in large furnace loads. It holds it's own pound per pound but, does require more tending. I get good heat from 15-20 splits for 2.5hrs.
