Jeez I wish they would keep them in the regular bags. It would be easier for me/us.

They have to throw us curveballs to keep us on our toes. The dealers that sell the name brand goods really hate that the boxes sell the same stuff for less. So they have to hide what they really are from normal view. Shouldn't be all that hard for us to deal with. Post the UPC codes and we'll get a list of whats in what. ;)

I talked to a sales rep at Forest Energy just now and he said that for the New Mexico market Home Depot's rebranding idea didn't market as well as they thought it would. HD found out that consumers were very brand loyal when it came to pellets and changing the name on the pellets made sales decrease even though it was the same pellets in the bag compared to the "Heatrs, Terramigo, Greentree" label. He also said that softwoods are more prevalent in the west and hardwoods are more prevalent in the east thus the regional price difference.
I find it funny that many pellet retailers here in NM swear by and push the hardwoods saying they are the better pellet, less ash longer lasting heat, at $1-3 more per bag than the softwoods.
I didn't want to re-hash the softwood vs hardwood debate, but I would like to hear from the eastcoasties on the difference in price in your neck of the woods between hard and softs. Also, are you being told that softwood is better than hardwood from your pellet retailers?

Our prices in the east are higher for better pellets in general. Dealer pellets are higher than boxstore pellets and thats were you get the good stuff. Some dealers have bargain pellets that rival the boxstore prices.

We do pay a premium for the west coast softwoods due to shipping and what the dealers tack on to them.

I was at our HD in Watertown ,Ny and they had green supremes for 209 or 219 cant remember but they were Green sups and no Hd bags .our lowes has Timber heats which is what I bought last year...

I almost forgot the soft wood pellets tend to run higher in price and most genrally hardwood is what they push up here but there are a few that are coming around to see how softwood pellets are superior in my humble opinion

Stop by HD and had on the racks, Indeck pellets. Burnt two tons of them last year. Still have a ton. High ash.
