I know nothing about these stoves. Here is a pic of the stove from the ad. Notice the wire around the bottom with the wedge.

  1. Is this something work messing with?
  2. Can an adapter for the oval to round still be found?
  3. Any guess on the year?

Thanks for your help.

Is there a specific reason why you are looking at this stove?

In the years since that stove was made, technology has advanced an awful lot. There are better stoves out there, without free splitting wedges and bailing wire.

Keep searching! There are more modern steel stoves that will be clean burners and not have unusual additions!

It's a decent heater, IF it is still in good working condition. Parts are getting scarce.
Examine carefully inside and out to make sure that there are no cracks. Check the operation of the bypass to make sure it's smooth and without warpage. Check the thermostat on the back of the stove to make sure it's complete and functional.
Yes, oval to round adapters still are made and sometimes it just takes ovalizing a section of 6, 7, or 8" pipe to adapt.

It was made from about 1978 through 1991 I think with incremental improvements. The back plate may have a coded manufactured date.

Looks like some damage to the back right side. Should not see the gasket. In fact I am not sure the stoves actually had vertical gaskets but used stove cement instead. The side is pulling away from the stove. If the side is warped then it would need to be replaced.

VC stoves can last a long time if treated right. I have a Resolute and a Vigilant II.

yeah unfortunately that stove looks jacked with that gasket filling a large gap at the side panel.

Pass on this one and find another.
