I have an older 1988ish VC defiant encore 2140 that was connected to an 8 inch chimney pipe but I’m thinking about moving it and hooking it up to an existing class A 6 inch chimney pipe. Chimney is about 30ft tall. Owners manual says to use 8inch but that was in 1988. Looks like new stoves says you can use 6 and with the taller chimney I think the 6 would be better anyways. Only thing I can find is with a 6 you have to leave the door closed which isn’t a problem.

Anybody know of problems with a wood stove with a 30ft 6 inch chimney pipe? Thanks

The only downside I can see is the need for a damper in the connector pipe. There is a good chance that a chimney system 30 feet tall will over draft & remove a good amount of heat from the stove. Others may chime in here…
