Hey all,
Just bought a used pellet stove, the owner was clearly a lover of pipe tobacco. Just got the stove running for the first time and the smell is overwhelming! Any suggestions on what to clean to get rid of the tobacco smell? Will it burn off with time?
Thanks!!

Well, your case is easier to live with, than the one earlier this week, with the cat piss smell.Realistically, take stove out side, remove all electrics, scrub outside and the convection air passageways, hose out,and put back together. However,if you are sure it is pipe or cigar tobacco, you can buy a bunch of "smoke out" candles, and continue to burn them ,in the stove room, throughout the winter. You can buy them at cigar shops and online. However,if it is actually cigarette residue, the candles will only knock the smell down, for a bit,as cigs leave lots of residues in the air,and the residues have oils in them, hard to clean out.

It is definitely cigar smoke! One of the residents of the house was out smoking a wooden sherlock style pipe as we were loading up the pellet stove into our truck, and the smell coming off it is exactly the same. Thank you so much for your suggestions, and yes - very glad it’s not cat piss!
