Earlier this year I bought a used Whitfield WP2 Advantage Insert without the igniter. It works well but I soon discovered that the power only needs to go off briefly to turn the unit off. I tried my APC BN450M 450VA/255W UPS but it did not work.

After reading this thread,

I bought a GoldenMate UPS off Amazon for $159. It works great. After charging it, I ran the Whitfield on medium settings for 1.5 hours. The charge indicator dropped from 5 to 3 bars in that time. It has power indicator that confirmed the power consumption found in the above thread. Power use was between 75-120 watts. Most of the time it was around 100 watts.

I forgot to mention but one of the most difficult things to figure out about a UPS is how long it will run. For example, a unit specified at 800 watt-hour running at 100 watts does not deliver 8 hours ( 800 wh/100w = 8 hours ) because capacity depends on load. This unit had a second specification that it would run for 30 minutes at 400 watts. Since capacity goes up with a lesser load, it is fairly safe to assume it would be possible to get at least 120 minutes or two hours at 100 watts. Since it ran for 1.5 hours dropping 2 bars out of 5 ( 40% ), That would suggest it can run for 3.75 hours at 100 watts ( 1.5 hours/.4 = x/1 or x = 3.75 hours )
