Our Travis sealed fireplace smells hot or dusty, depending on who smells it, and eventually, it sets off our smoke alarms. The smell does not seem to be coming from the front of the fireplace. In fact, smell is strongest in other parts of the house. Service people tell us that is because the heat rises. Service people also tell us there is nothing wrong with it. Any suggestions on what can be done would be appreciated.

Someone needs to open up an inspection hole into the chimney chase and verify the system's safety. Did they do that? They should make sure that there is no sawdust on the fireplace top, no wood or other combustible within 2" of the chimney pipe. If that has been done then remove the blower and clean out all dust, animal hair etc. Are there outlet vents on the fireplace? They should be removed and the inside ducts cleaned too.
