ok after a lot of research it looks like im going to get the 22 ton tractor supply splitter seems to be the best deal out there on a over 20 ton splitter. any one use this spiltter ? what do u think? looks like i can get it for $900. its $999 plus 10% off. so seems like good deal.
 
If you do a search for 22 Ton I think you'll find pages and pages on this particular splitter.

That is a heck of a good price and the lowest I've seen! I'd grab it.

Although ours is one of the older ones, we have never had a problem with it and it does a super job of splitting. However, once you get it, then you have to learn the best way to use it because technique matters with a log splitter too. There are many ways of making the job easier and quicker. Good luck to you.
 
I have this one too, picked it up this fall. Splits anything I run at it, including a 24" diameter Elm.
I lucked out on my deal, the Tractor Supply had a couple units on their lot that had been returned with supossed problems. The one I got was returned because the "control lever was sticking". Looked brand new and I have not noticed any issues. They gave it to me for 25% off the sales price - $750, with full warranty.
 
Sheeesh that's a good deal.
I bought a 22 ton Brave splitter in 1989 on sale at Central Tractor and I know I paid well over a grand for it. It was my first and last splitter. Never had one problem with it. I'll bet I ran over 500 cord through that thing the 2-3 years I owned it. One tough machine

Gotta ask!! How are you getting the 999 price + the 10% off?? I checked TSCs site and they don't have their splitters on sale any more. I think the 999 sale was over on the 28th. I've searched for 10% off cupons for 3 months w/o any luck not to mention asking in store.

I have posted this before, but when I went to buy my Huskee 22 ton splitter from TSC I asked the salesman if he could do anything on the price after we talked about it some. He said he had a coupon in his pocket that would give me 10% off. I said that works for me. When I got ready to pay, the store manager said to give me 10% off my total that day which was over $100 as I bought some other stuff.

The only thing I found with my Huskee, was some loose bolts that I had to tighten up and the oil is a major pain to drain.

I think your not supposed to go over 45mph, but I didn't realize I had mine up to 60 for a short while when I bought mine. I did buy a atv flag to put on the splitter to see it in my rear window so I knew it was back there.

Agreed - also depends on how bumpy the roads are - there is no suspension on these things other than the air in the tires, so you have a tendency to go airborne over a good pothole... The other big issue is that many splitters essentially use the tank as part of the chassis - often the axles are just stubs welded onto the tank. If you hit a bump going to hard / fast, you can flex the tank and crack it - w/ resulting leaks, etc...

ya i i figured to go slow due to no leaf springs ll just take back roads, think it would fit in good old ford ranger bed?

I don't think it will fit very well in the back of a Ranger. I have a Toyota Tacoma and thought of doing the same as I intend to take it to my parents' house many miles away to use from time to time. The biggest complicating factor is the wheel well humps in the bed, which are exactly where the wheels of the splitter would be if I loaded it in my truck.

I have given up on that idea and plan to haul it in my utility trailer instead.

But, if you are pulling it in the vicinity of where you live, the splitter should do just fine if you go slow and take it easy.
 
I bought one this summer and split about 7-8 cords for my dad. He had some of the knottiest mulberry I ever saw and it did not stop, it split it all. I towed it home about 40 miles at about 50 mph without any issues.
I did remove the wheels to check the bearing grease and they were greased very well already.
I do load it in my Tundra when going to my dad's because he is 50 miles away, and it just fits in the bed.

Overall I am very happy with it.
 
Splitters are delivered to the store partially assembled often a stock boy does the final assembly. They have been known to get preoccupied with other things and forget to finish tightening bolts. The wheels and bearings are about what you will find on a wheel barrow even though the tires maybe rated for the highway. Once you leave the parking lot the responsibility is yours.
 
bought it tonight got home no prob. hopefully start splitting this sun. got it ft $950, so pretty good price.

just asked manager what they could do on it, found out ahed of time they had 9 on had... and one coming back this weekend. he said $975 i said all i had was $950 cash. he said deal... and even got him to throw in a good pair of thick gloves. sweet,,, good store nice people. ill go back and recommend to anyone out there looking to buy.
 
You'll love it....

No problems with mine in 3 years EXCEPT all the bolts that hold the motor to the frame were loose. One day I was looking at it and it seemed like it was running rough. Shut here down and the whole motor was loose. Check the bolts and you'll be good to go.

I've split about 25 cords with mine. Love it!
