that reginald with the gold looks damn good - the contrast, the black and gold. thank you for posting that, the two tone idea is great too.

yes, the inside doesn't have to be clean. mostly surprised the laquer didnt dissolve the soot, even sitting there for a while. even with scrubbing. good to now.

with that back panel the electrolysis cleared rust off, it's just coated still in a black oily residue of paint and probably someone's old oil. a treatment of ospho got most of that off in the end.

do you think stringer bead twisted knot wire wheels are ok for the cast iron?

I'm sorry but I am usually done prepping a broken down stove in under an hour with a wire wheel on an angle grinder then wipe down. The only way it takes more time is if it was polished. Then you need chemicals or to sandblast because oil will be left behind with just a wire wheel
Same. I drove an hour for this one, Wire wheel with cup brush on a antique polisher, paint, fire, deliver and install same day! Lesson learned was even a warm stove in the back of the vehicle, windows down, is too much heat!

I used a loose wire wheel you can see it in one of my pics. I don't think you'll really hurt it one way or the other, as long as you don't focus on a single spot too long.
