Others have mentioned but alot of inocent folks have gone to jail/prison for setting booby traps. But my thoughts are you should be able to hang em hang-em-high :zip:

I've been having a similar problem lately too. I put some logs across the road to stop people driving through a small part of my land. A certain jeep keeps coming through and moving them and he's been warned twice.

So today I got a tube of grease for a grease gun and completely coated the logs. You can not touch the logs without getting grease on yourself. And I put up a game camera with my 20' extension ladder. Couldn't bring myself to do the spike thing. I can't wait till he ruins a $20 pair of pants, a $10 shirt and gets grease on his steering wheel. All so he can save 2 minutes.

Yes, I know the risk and I have read the code. It is my risk to take. I take a strong stance on crime especially crime against me or my family. I was contacted by the police today and they want permission to post some officers on my property. I will find out more about this tonight. Depending on how that conversation goes they may be able to convince me to remove them but there was no talk of that over the phone.

Just something to think about. I hate Lowlife's too. If these losers get a few flat tires from a booby trap
that you set,they might just think that it's a good idea to come back in the night at a later date and burn
your house down with your family in it in order to get even. They would not retaliate against a victim
of their crime if the Police nailed them.

I'm no pansy or coward, but I just wouldn't want to get into a push, comes to shove, comes to ????
with some thieving crackheads that know where I live, over some scrap metal.

People that have nothing to lose are the worst to challenge openly. Recommend you get an id on them with a game camera or similar. Once the intel is in, you will have options. Safer for you and your family.

Just taking out the guy picking up the scrap lets the person behind him escape and doesn't lead to the fence. Often the police can flip the actual thief and get the drug dealer or fence. Thus ending the problem for a while. This outcome is better than a misdemeanor theft charge on the guy at the bottom of the chain.

Why not just put a gate or a chain up? With a hidden trail cam for when they cut the lock. Would that qualify for unlawful entry or break and enter? I think that your insurance company would be happier with this than your pungee sticks.

I despise thief's. Even more so in a rural area - that they have to trespass even to get a "look-see" for scrap metal.



Bspring -

If your are so inclined, instead of solid spikes, make them hollow - lets more air out faster! and stagger them over a 6" length.
Even as is, flat black paint, and camouflage with "local" material - leaves, grasses, gravel, etc. Just make sure that the local P.O.'s understand that they are there, and not drive over them accidentally.

+1 let the Police do their job. Who knows, maybe the bad guys will attempt to flee or resist and the cops can give them what they really deserve.
