Thoughts on stow chow pellets ?

I have approx half ton of Chows left over from last year..burned 2 tons of Energex hardwoods and ton/half of Chows.
They give very good heat but as everyone knows, they are quite ashy....
this year I added ton of O'Malley's.. burned 2 bags so far and like them.. grey and black ash] and trying the Golden Pellets from Energex for 1st time. 0.5 ash..
we'll see...I think after this year I will prob pass on the chows and stay with the 3 brands in my signature although I would easily burn Chows if they we're all I could get.just gotta vacuum more often.
by the way, heard lot of good about Lignetics.

For me, Stove Chow has always been consistent. I like them, not the best, but really good.

I used Chows during shoulder seasons and they clinkered in my stove. I switched to Fireside ultras from Home depot this year and find them much better than the Chows

I picked up couple bags of FU's just to try last week...
Pleasantly surprised /.. Less ash than Chows.... Heat from both appeared the same to me.
Have about 20 bags of Chows left over from last season then onto the Better stuff in my stash...

I wasn't impressed with last year's Chows. The only other (affordable) choices I have in my area are either Lignetics at $270/ton or North American Pellets (80/20 blend, supposedly) at $265/ton. Anyone have experience with the latter?

North American Pellets that I purchased at the end of last season was the worst pellets since 2008 that I have ever burned., There was so much ash it looked like a snow storm in my stove. Unfortunately I have a few bags left over.

Got 3 tons of stove chow to go with the 1/2 ton of fireside ultra we had left from last year. We had 3 tons of stove chow last year and were very happy with them. The few bags that we have used this year of chow seem to have longer pellets then last years. Nothing bad just my observation.

I know im resurrecting an old topic here but I'm pretty impressed with these. I'm a few bags in and starting to see a difference vs. my somersets I've been burning the past 3 tons. (1 from last year). As several have said the ash is noticeably darker along with the actual pellet. But they burn beautifully. Also until these bags I thought it was normal to get huge "ash chunks" on the size of the burn pot, after a prolonged pot scraping absence. (16ish hours. ) haven't noticed it one bit with these. With the lower price at HD now. I'm thinking it'll be worth my time to drive the extra 30 minutes to pick up a ton next weekend.

I got 2 tons of Stove Chow along with a ton of Green Supreme back in October. I burned all the Green Supreme first. I'm now burning Stove Chow with drastically different results. I had to run my stove on levels 4 and 5 in order to keep my house warm with the Green Supreme. Those are the two highest levels on my stove. Previously, I had never had to run the stove on level 5 for an extended period of time. With the Stove Chow I cycle between levels 2 and three, and my house is warmer than when I was running the stove full tilt with the Green Supreme. I will never buy Green Supreme again.

on the Plus side, no one has ever said that Chows we're not hot......
they always put out out good heat.

Depends on stove , i got a vogelzang 5790 , stove burns anything you throw at its.even the snow, i call it , the fines..

I burn nothing but Stove Chow. But you have to take into consideration that I bought three tons four years ago for my stove in the basement and only burn in it when I am working down there. So I still have one ton left and have no idea how other pellets heat.

Back then the gang here talked me into buying them like they were God's gift to pellet heating. I suspect that all of that ash means they were messing with me.

God's gift is waaaay out there...... good heat but Ash City as u have expirienced..
