Thought I was done burning but...

What's this burning thing (hey, where's the ducks for cover smiley?)?

I have been saying, "This is the last bag I'm putting in" for a couple of weeks now! Had to put another in this morning. Dang overnight temps still in the 40ºF's! Daytime temps just touching the 70ºF's. But the wind blowing of the lake is still pretty cold. We got to open the windows a couple of days to air things out. But closed again at night!

I have some stuff in the garden and some annuals in as well. But the serious stuff doesn't go in until the planters moon(5-17-2011)! 1st full moon of May is my start. Something my gramps taught me long ago!

Warm up and be stuck with a full bag in the hopper. Unfortunately Mother Nature doesn't agree! Friday night it got into the 30's and has been pretty consistent in the low 40's at night.

After several days in the 70's it's 39 and I lit the stove again this morning. Forecast for next Sunday and Monday brings snow to my elevation. Yikes!

Good to listen ot Grandpa! My gramps was from Nova Scotia. He knew when to plant by watching the natural vegetation. example, safe to plant corn when the oak leaves are the size of a mouse's ear. Whenever he took something out from the ground, he was sure to put something back. What a garden he had, right up to his 88th year!
We have our stove going today. Cold, windy, raining off and on.

I'm sore in the fall and spring because of putting stuff back in the ground. It seems to come in cubic yards ;-) . In fact the first spring here I had 32 cubic yards of loam delivered so I could start some gardening and do some landscaping.

Next door at that time were 3 horses, a goat, a pony, a donkey, and many dump truck loads of composting and composted manure. They were more than happy for some of it to get used.

I got my warm up in that first year by shoveling snow off the roof and deck ( on one side of the house this went shovel many yards off the deck, then rake the roof onto the deck, and re shovel the deck ) and then moved on to moving loam and mixing in compost.

I manufacture about three yards a year of decent soil, I use this to expand the gardens (all raised beds) with. I had to break down and purchase compost last fall. I've expanded both our vegetable and flower gardens each of the last four years.

Stoked up the stove again today. This weather is depressing.

Yesterday I just used the gas furnace and water heater. I used 1 1/2 therm or about 2 bucks of NG. Today was the first day since Nov. I didn'y use any heat.

Still going down into the 30's here and some 20's at night, that's the only time the stove will come on. It's about 50 here now and I have some windows open a bit. Drizzle, on and off rain for the next couple of days. I'm burning about a bag every 3 days. I like it though...

Just pulled the trigger on 6 ton, wanted to get that out of the way... I'll be good for about 2 and 1/2 years considering what's left from this winter...

I'm really hoping for a good 3"-4" of heavy wet snow...with some sleet to make it all shiny (shhh, this is my attempt at some reverse psychology on mother nature). I've had about enough of this sunshine and warmth. Nothing beats firing up the stove in mid May to dry up the ski boots.

Shut the stove off but am using a little oil here and
there as I don't want to burn any more of my pellet stash
for next season and I'm cold without some form of heat
at this time. Nights have still been in the 40's. (broken image removed)
Enough is enough. Same crappy overcast, damp, windy
stuff every day. Gonna go from this right into the
three H's so get those air cond. systems ready.

Still burning and don't mind. Not uncommon for me to end the middle of May and begin the end of September. Hey, it beats burning oil!
