[Hearth.com] This kind of deal on wood is common up here
Theres more than a few lumber mills up here that sell their bolts or ends for a good price up here in the sticks. One, a few miles from here will sell a heaping 8’ long box of oak filled of chunk stuff like what’s in this ad for $20 but it’s green. Pile it up and let it dry in the sun for a year or two and it’s all good then.

What’s that about a cord or a little over? Sounds like a good deal.

I’d guess a cord or so but it is good deal. They must be a smaller mill judging by how they say to drop off the trailer and they’ll call you when it’s filled up. The mill I mentioned down the road from here makes railroad ties and they have big piles wood all the time. Here’s another shot of the $20 trailer load. Good wood porn. ;)

I would quit cutting if I had that available!

That’s a great deal for $20! Seems like good deals are hard to come by on firewood around here since so many people heat with wood. It’s usually priced accordingly. Only tricky part with mill cutoffs would be stacking to dry but those even look pretty consistently sized.

Wow. Do they have a branch in my neighborhood?
If your in a area with lots of woods maybe there’s a lumber mill close by. Ask them about cut-offs. Also if there’s any paper mills sometimes they have some knarly stuff that they can’t process and they sell it cheap,or give it away. We have a Domtar paper wood lot here that I stop at sometimes to see what they have to give away, one time a few years ago they gave me three 8’ truck loads of red oak and the even loaded me with their grapplers. In fact I think I have a piece of it in the stove burning right now.

I have about 3 lumber mills close. I should swing by and chat. Lots of guys here burn wood and I'm sure that the guys in the mill are gonna get dibbs. Never hurts to ask.
