I don't think anyone hate's pine, it just why would you take a saltene cracker off the buffet table when it's sitting next to a thick juicy porterhouse steak (at least for Btu purposes). There's a lot more hardwood around in the east, and in many places, only a few pines here & there among them. Just today I put 4 Hemlocks on the burn pile from a little clearing for a view, the Beech, Maple & Birch went to the firewood area. If I had some of those beautiful D. fir growing, they wouldn't get near my stove, I'd be having them cut into lumber! Of course this is coming from a guy in Maine, that is supposed to be the most wooded state in the US.
