I don't think anyone hate's pine, it just why would you take a saltene cracker off the buffet table when it's sitting next to a thick juicy porterhouse steak (at least for Btu purposes). There's a lot more hardwood around in the east, and in many places, only a few pines here & there among them. Just today I put 4 Hemlocks on the burn pile from a little clearing for a view, the Beech, Maple & Birch went to the firewood area. If I had some of those beautiful D. fir growing, they wouldn't get near my stove, I'd be having them cut into lumber! Of course this is coming from a guy in Maine, that is supposed to be the most wooded state in the US.

I believe "they" say Maine is the most heavily forested state east of the Mississippi River, but not the entire U.S.

White Pine is the "money wood" around here, along with the oaks, but they grow sooo slooow!
