The Northwestern Tiny House

Hi,
I was pretty impressed by this Tiny House project done at Northwestern University:

In 128 sf it has complete living quarters with kitchen, bath (with shower), and sleeping loft.

Its completely independent of all utilities -- collects its own water, makes its own electricity, solar heats its water, and treats its sewage. AND it heats with a wood burner

Lots of really clever details, and the website has a lot of detail on the project.

Pretty cool Gary. I may have to pop up to the Museum & check it out.
I was just talking to my wife this morning about how little we use a couple of the rooms in our house. We have a 1450 sf house, but with the 2 of us, a baby and a dog we are usually all in one or two rooms. We could easily live in less than 1000sf of our house as is. With a better design I could see us being comfortable in less than that. We actually have a dream to build our own small, sustainable home. Only problem is what would we do with all the stuff?

Very intriguing. For general lighting, one of these (broken link removed) would light the entire house, and adding its smaller cousin, the N200, for specific task lighting would handle other needs. I have one of each. I use the N220 for my computer desk light until the sum comes up, and the N200 for an under the counter task light for early morning coffee before sunrise.

I know what you mean about the "stuff" -- I'm not sure we could ever move again

I like the "tiny" houses, but I'm not sure we could live in one. We would probably be better off in a "small" house.

Would be a good idea for emergency homes for homeless and disaster relief but dont put FEMA in charge or they will be Unlivable.
Also for mountain cabin living,camping ect.
