It wasn't until the early 80's that they started getting UL stamps. Which means that yours probably does not have a tag anywhere.

Many of the 1976's had a star w/ '76 on the door for the bicentennial edition. At least on the grandpa bears, Not sure if any grandma's came w/ that though.

I am using a J thermocouple probe inserted about 4" in the flue pipe up about 40" from the collar.
The probe reads about 200* higher than the magnetic thermometer.
