Swapping the surround on a QF Mt Vernon insert

Hello, we are remodeling and replacing an ugly wood/tile hearth with thinstone. As a result, we want to use a different surround than the installed one (pictured). The width of a replacement QF OEM plain surround is actually larger than this one: 50 inches versus 45. I'd like to avoid having a larger surround.

Has anyone had experience in using a non OEM surround that's slimmer in profile? Any suggestions or advice appreciated.

As above, a good metal shop can modify to the size you want or make a custom suround
 
You will want to use their surround and have that one modified as the guys have suggested. I always liked the cast pieces added to the Mt Vernon, it made already a beast stove even heavier... careful if you have to move her. Stay warm.
